Job Title:Youth Program Coordinator Department: Youth Development

Reports to:Director of Youth Development Effective Date:May 2024

Schedule: 35 hours a week Monday through Friday, Thursday evenings (Academic Year only) and select Saturdays required.

Job Summary:

The Youth Program Coordinator is responsible for the co-lead facilitation for Transformation and Girls Promoting Safety (GPS) programs.

  • Transformations is a groundbreaking program designed by Black women, for young Black girls from our community. This program provides a safe, welcoming, and engaging space where girls can cultivate their unique identities, build self-confidence, and develop a sense of belonging. Through a culturally responsive and holistic approach, Transformations fosters a supportive environment that addresses the social, emotional, and academic needs of its participants. By centering the experiences and perspectives of Black girls, this program empowers them to grow into confident, compassionate, and critically thinking leaders, equipped to transform their lives and the world around them.

  • Girls Promoting Safety (GPS) is a strength-based violence prevention education program. We cover topics including communication skills, assertiveness, conflict resolution, healthy relationships, stress management, and more, through games, activities, discussions, and videos. The GPS program is a collaboration between the YWCA Central Massachusetts and Girls Inc. of Worcester.

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None

    Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Recruit middle school girls for programs.

  • Create and maintain individual files for intake and assessment.

  • Monitor and track student attendance and participation in the scheduled programming

  • Collect data, create spreadsheets and conduct pre/post surveys of all participants.

  • Adapt and implement curriculum for Transformation and GPS programs.

  • Plan and facilitate creative activities, programs, and interactions for youth and others that focus on gender stereotypes and differences, boundaries, socialization, and character development.

  • Foster collaborative relationships with families, empowering them to actively support their child’s development, and cultivating a sense of community and shared responsibility for youth success

  • Provide case management to program participants

  • Assist in coordinating field trips and transporting girls on the field trips

  • Assist with planning and running activities for other youth development program within the department

  • Purchase food and program supplies

  • Perform other duties as requested.

Qualifications

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Demonstrated public speaking, facilitation, training, and organizational skills

  • Proficient computer skills.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment.

  • Ability to engage youth

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required

    Education and Experience:

  • Associate degree in human services, Counseling, Psychology or related field or equivalent education and experience preferred

  • Experience working with youth or young adults required.

    Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

  • Must be able to walk and stand for extended intervals.
