Job Description

The Technical Laboratory Coordinator, under general direction, coordinates and oversees the daily operational activities of a laboratory. Ensures adherence to lab standards and practices.Responsibilities: - Coordinates and oversees the daily operational activities of multiple teaching laboratories. Ensures adherence to lab standards and practices as related to university and Forensic Education Program Accreditation Commission (FEPAC) criteria.

-Oversees procurement of laboratory equipment and supplies, chemical storage, safety labeling and inventory control. Maintains inventory supplies and records. (10%) • Oversees the maintenance of laboratory facilities, equipment and instrumentation and arranges for repairs. Evaluates existing laboratory facilities and recommends improvements.

  • Develops and maintains standard operating procedures for the laboratories as related to university and FEPAC criteria. Develops procedures for the use of laboratory instrumentation.

    -Ensures proper storage, handling, and disposal of laboratory waste.

  • Assists in the development and update of instructional materials for teaching laboratories. Assists in the development and testing of new experiments and curricula.

    -Supervises and trains Graduate Assistants Teaching (GAT) and Undergraduate Learning Assistants (ULA) in the handling and preparation of laboratory materials, and the delivery of laboratory content and activities.

    -Participates in the evaluation of GAT and ULA performance.

    -Assists in the assignment of teaching assignments for laboratory sections. May teach undergraduate lab courses, including technical writing instruction. May teach undergraduate lecture courses.

    -Other dutikes as required.

Required Education and Experience:-Bachelor’s degree or any equivalent combination of training and experience.-Three years of related experience in laboratory operations.

Preferred Education:

-Master's Degree

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:-Knowledge of computers and mainframe environments.

Knowledge of standard laboratory equipment.

Oral and written communication skills.-Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

Additional information:

-Individuals with prior experience working in forensics labs will potentially be able to develop a new FIVS course based on their specialty, or to instruct an existing FIVS course.
