Job Description
Applications are invited for a Senior Research Associate to work in a joint research project at Texas A&M AgriLife, Temple, TX and USDA-ARS, Maricopa, AZ. The associate will be involved in the research activities focusing on remote sensing and machine learning to develop national scale conservation activity datasets such as tillage intensity and crop rotations. Performs independent or supervisory roles in research activities requiring an advanced level of knowledge in a field of science or learning, are predominantly intellectual and varied in character, and require consistent use of discretion and judgment.
Specific job responsibilities:
Develop and improve machine learning models using satellite remote sensing datasets.
Implement spatial and remote sensing data processing algorithms to produce datasets to integrate and/or assimilate into crop models.
Evaluate, select, and apply standard research methodologies; maintain comprehensive data records.
Assist with literature review, reports and publishing research findings in peer-reviewed journals.
Utilize computers and laboratory or technical equipment for data analysis, statistical analysis, and the technical evaluation of research experiments and outcomes.
Summarize results to include in scientific and clientele oriented publications.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
Master's degree in Agricultural Engineering, Environmental Science/Engineering, Data Science, or related field. Two years of related experience.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Experience working in the Unix/Linux environment. Expertise in data assimilation techniques.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Experience working on spatial data processing using ArcGIS, R, and/or Python.
Experience working with satellite remote sensing data and data mining techniques.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
