Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Mouse Colony Management: Maintain and oversee mouse colonies, including breeding, genotyping, and monitoring of animal health. Ensure compliance with ethical and regulatory guidelines for animal research. (20%)

  • Laboratory Support: Prepare reagents, maintain laboratory equipment, and ensure a safe and organized laboratory environment. Maintain detailed records of experiments, protocols, and results. Prepare reports and presentations for research meetings and publications. Ensure compliance with laboratory safety regulations, ethical guidelines, and institutional policies. (10%)

  • Collaboration: Collaborate with other team members, including researchers, graduate students, and laboratory staff, to facilitate research projects and achieve research goals (5%)

  • Assists in the design, planning, and coordinating of experiments in support of various research projects.

  • Selects and applies standard techniques of routine research and keeps detailed records of data.

  • Uses computers and laboratory or technical equipment to perform data analysis, statistical analysis, and technical evaluation of research experiments and results.

  • Evaluates and summarizes results.

  • Assists in preparing and writing proposals to funding agencies; maintains financial accounts related to research projects.

  • Assists undergraduate and/or graduate students and other laboratory, technical or field staff involved in research.

  • Installs, operates, maintains, and/or repairs research equipment.

  • Assists with reports, invoices, and cataloging records.

  • Conduct Experiments: Design, execute, and analyze experiments related to nutrition and biomedical research, including but not limited to molecular biology, genetics, and biochemical assays. Record and organize experimental data accurately. Assist in data analysis using relevant software and statistical methods.(60%)

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Master's degree in nutrition, biology, biochemistry, genetics, or a related major and will have a strong background in experimental research, with a preference for experience in mouse colony management.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of laboratory maintenance and equipment. Knowledge of computers and computer software related to the position.

  • Ability to multi task and work cooperatively with others.

This is a grant funded position.
