Job Description

The Rescue Training Support Technician I provides training support to the ESTI Rescue Training Program. Prepares training sites prior to course delivery and assists Instructors with logistical and operational needs throughout the course. Responsible for maintenance, testing, and repairs of emergency response training equipment. Regularly assists instructors and US&R Foreman with hands-on training evolutions. May be required to support the Texas Task Force-1 response to state or federally declared disasters on occasion.

This position reports to the Training Support Foreman.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • One year of experience operating heavy equipment, which may include backhoes, forklifts, cranes, and/or driving trucks and backing long trailers.

Required Licenses/Certifications:

  • Must have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Secondary education and/or training in an emergency response related field.

  • Five years of experience operating heavy equipment.

  • Two years of emergency services, HazMat/Industrial response experience.

  • Construction equipment operation experience.

  • Previous experience in the test and evaluation of Emergency Response equipment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work outdoors exposed to various weather conditions, potential allergens, elevated noise levels, and heat.

  • Physical conditioning consistent with using required personal protective equipment (SCBA/SAR), setting up classrooms, climbing, crawling in confined spaces, movement and/or lifting of light, moderate, and/or heavy training and project and rescue equipment and training props while performing rescue training.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of basic office software and instructional programs.

  • Working knowledge of tools and ability to operate mechanized equipment used in the program.

  • Ability to follow instructions and detailed protocol.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to ensure understanding.

  • Knowledge of training safety guidelines and equipment maintenance.

  • Knowledge and understanding of approved personal protective equipment (PPE) for all actions and tasks associated with job duties to include safe operation of heavy equipment.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

Equipment:

  • Standard office equipment: computer, keyboard, multifunctional printer, telephone.

  • TEEX ESTI Certification to operate:

  • Backhoe

  • Skid Steer Loader

  • Aerial Boom Lift

  • Crane

  • Telehandler

  • Forklift

  • Hand/power tools.

  • Construction/ Fabrication Equipment: welder, torches, compressor, threader.

Notifications:

  • This position is security sensitive.

  • This position may require work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.

  • This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TEEX regulations and procedures.

  • All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and Agency safety requirements.

  • As part of TEEX’s mission of providing training, developing practical solutions, and saving lives; this position could be required, if called upon, to deploy within the State of Texas as directed by this position’s Division Director/HQ Department Head.

  • Ability to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving a personal or TEEX vehicle and/or flying on commercial airlines.

Essential Duties, Tasks, and Percentages:

Rescue Program Support - 50%

  • Prepares training sites prior to course delivery.

  • Operates machinery and equipment (backhoe, skid loader, forklift, crane, etc.) to move concrete, lumber, steel, and heavy loads in support of US&R training.

  • Works with Instructors to assist with course and student needs.

  • Takes down and cleans training sites at conclusion of course delivery.

Training Facilities and Equipment Maintenance - 45%

  • Maintains neat and clean general staff areas.

  • Assures tools and equipment are accounted for and stored in proper locations.

  • Ensures that security of facility and content is always sufficient and appropriate.

  • Constructs, installs, and completes facility improvements as necessary under the direction of supervisor.

Texas A&M Task Force Deployment Support - 5%

  • Assists and supports logistics personnel.

  • Prepares cache for deployment and transport as needed.

  • Recovers assets and accounts for issued equipment.

  • Assists with the deployment of US&R cache in allowable timeframe upon direction by ESTI Division Director.

Other Duties:

  • Interacts respectfully and professionally with staff and external partners.

  • Works well with teams to accomplish training deliverables Complete training needed for equipment operation and learning.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
