The Social Roles and Beliefs Lab (www.socialroleslab.com) in the Division of Science at New York University Abu Dhabi is inviting applications for a Research Assistant interested in gaining experience in experimental social psychological research focused on understanding and addressing occupational gender segregation. The role has a particular emphasis on the use of virtual reality to gain insights into social psychological phenomena.

This position is designed for candidates with a background in Psychological or Social and Behavioral Sciences and experimental research methodology. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of virtual reality or augmented reality (for example, designing and programming virtual reality environments). However, candidates without previous experience with virtual reality will also be considered.

The Research Assistant will work under the direction of the Principal Investigator, Dr. Andrea Vial, and will interact closely with other NYUAD faculty, postdocs, and undergraduate students. The Research Assistant’s primary responsibilities entail assisting with in-person lab experiments using virtual reality to investigate self-perceptions, behavior, and attitudes and beliefs related to gender segregation. Secondary responsibilities entail assisting with online research studies and providing administrative support for the lab. Excellent communication skills in English and close attention to detail are essential.

The candidate will also work on individualized research projects under the supervision of the faculty during the duration of his/her tenure.

Responsibilities of the Position:

· The Research Assistant will be involved in all stages of the research process including participant recruitment and outreach, protocol development and maintenance, scheduling and running experimental sessions.

· Secondary duties entail providing administrative support for the lab, producing detailed progress reports on ongoing research studies, and maintaining lab inventories, among other tasks.

Essential Qualifications:

· A Bachelor or Master’s degree in Psychology (or closely related field).

Preferred experience:

· Previous experience with experimental social psychology is desirable.

· Previous experience designing and programming virtual reality environments in desirable.
