Job Description

NREL’s Communications Office has an opening in the Energy Assistance and Transitions Section for a communications project coordinator who will contribute to communications plans for multiple community technical assistance (TA) programs and/or other partnerships with communities/utilities across NREL’s State, Local, Tribal (SLT) portfolio.

In this role, you will be responsible for coordinating communications for assigned community TA projects, including ensuring completion of communications deliverables, maintaining relationships, and serving as point of contact for clients at NREL and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). This position may be a great match if:

  • You enjoy building relationships with researchers and program managers.

  • You love implementing communications plans and teaming up with specialists (designers, writers, editors) to produce related content (such as news articles, website copy, social media posts, videos, webinars, presentations, event collateral, and more).

  • You can proactively track multiple tasks in parallel, coordinate the efforts of others, and deliver on deadlines.

  • You focus on the audience—who are we communicating to, and why—and bring specialists, and clients back to this key focus. You find joy in communicating science-y subject matter in plain language.

Successful candidates will be able to support multiple projects concurrently with directional guidance, in alignment with other TA project/program communications, and measure overall results against established goals. We’re looking for a self-motivated project coordinator with strong teamwork and organizational skills who is comfortable with quick-turn requests and has experience with strategic communications planning and execution.

Job functions include:

  • Serve as the supporting NREL communications contact for NREL and DOE across assigned community technical assistance programs and projects.

  • Implement and manage multiple strategic communications projects simultaneously in alignment with team and overarching NREL and DOE community TA communication goals.

  • Track and provide updates on budgets, timelines, and deliverables. Adhere to NREL and DOE style, brand guidelines, web standards, and best practices.

  • Collaborate with team members and specialists to execute the communication of project updates and results to defined audiences.

  • Collaborate, solve problems, inform clients, team lead, and manager, and manage projects through documentation and presentations in Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, ClickUp, and Adobe Acrobat.

With your application, please include a cover letter describing why you’re interested in this position, highlighting your communications project management, leadership, and/or content experience.
