Empire State University Lead Programmer/Analyst in Various Locations, New York

Empire State University is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our Information Technology Services department as a Lead Programmer/Analyst (State Title: Lead Programmer/Analyst) to support the university's enterprise administrative systems. This position requires ongoing communication and interaction with professional and support staff distributed across the state of New York. The selected applicant needs to be a team player who is curious about new digital technologies. This position will report to the Assistant Director of Development.

This position is responsible for:

  • Employing technical and functional skills and experience to ensure reliability, availability, and maintainability of one or more on-premises and cloud-based applications.

  • Automating processes, creating third party systems integrations, and the utilization of web services and APIs.

  • Maintenance, quality assurance, testing, and apply sanctioned security settings to custom-developed software and vendor software both on-premises and cloud-based.

  • Documenting the development and maintenance processes of applications.

Typical duties may include:

  • Designing, developing, modifying and documenting complex applications programs on major interactive and/or administrative systems, under the general direction of higher-level computer professionals.

  • Constructing logical data models, involving design of detailed flowcharts, block diagrams and routines, used in program formulation.

  • Reviewing and analyzing user specifications in writing programming code.

  • Verifying program logic by preparing data for trial runs and by implementing tested changes.

  • Assisting in the development of innovative program design and logic features.

  • Assuming responsibility for less complex systems analysis projects, involving development of subsystems, enhancement of existing systems.

  • Analyzing existing system logic difficulties and revising logic and procedures, involving diagnosis of problems with the function and performance of hardware and software products, and affecting remedies.

  • Assisting users in identifying difficult technical problems arising from complex systems software.

    Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

  • A minimum of three years of enterprise applications experience.

  • Experience with discussing user requirements and developing specifications for projects with clients.

  • Knowledge of Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), documentation, debugging, and testing.

  • Proven experience with SQL and/or PL/SQL.

  • Experience with JavaScript.

  • Experience with Higher Education and working with an ERP such as Banner.

  • Ability to create reports using a reporting tool (such as Argos).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding of PHP, ReactJS, and/or Git.

  • Experience with CRMs and/or LMSs (Brightspace).

  • Understanding of UX and UI.

  • Familiarity with accessibility and WCAG 2.1.

  • Familiarity with Content Management Systems, single sign on, and version control.

Special Information:

  • May involve occasional travel to university locations across New York State.

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

  • Occasional weekend and evening work may be required.

  • SUNY Empire provides employees with robust remote and flexible work options to meet the needs of students, faculty, and staff in a dispersed work environment. University locations that may be considered include Saratoga Springs, Rochester and Selden, NY.

    Additional Information:

Rank/Salary: SL3 / $60,000-$70,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
