McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston, a leading academic health center, invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE), non-tenure clinical track faculty position in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences - Urogynecology division. Start date July 1, 2024.

The selected candidate will contribute to the Department’s mission to educate healthcare professionals, model the best practices in clinical care, and participate in clinical research as a member of the Urogynecology division. This position has both academic and private practice aspects, depending on location. Resident teaching is involved at Memorial Hermann- Texas Medical Center Hospital, with a private practice model at Memorial Hermann Southeast and Bayshore clinics in Houston, TX.

The Division of Urogynecology at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston provides comprehensive care for women with pelvic floor disorders. Conditions treated included the following as well as others:

  • Pelvic Organ Prolapse

  • Urinary Incontinence

  • Voiding Disorders

  • Bladder / Pelvic Pain

  • Recurrent UTIs

  • Urethral Diverticula

  • Fistulas

In-office procedures including multichannel cystometrics as well as cystoscopy are offered in clinical settings. Surgeries aimed at treating disorders of the pelvic floor are performed at Memorial Hermann Hospitals System. Surgeries are performed using minimally invasive techniques when possible. Procedures offered include:

  • Pelvic Organ Prolapse & Incontinence Surgery performed by vaginal/robotic/abdominal routes

  • Minimally Invasive Slings

  • Vaginal Hysterectomy / Laparoscopic Hysterectomy

  • Vaginal Vault Suspension

  • Robotic Sacrocolpopexy

  • Robotic Suspension of Vagina

  • Robotic Hysterectomy

The Memorial Hermann Healthcare System is a non-profit, values-driven system dedicated to serving Houston and the surrounding suburbs. Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center is the primary teaching hospital for McGovern Medical School, with 1091 beds, and designated a Level 1 Trauma Center. Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital is a 293-bed, Level 3 Trauma Center, offering a full range of medical, surgical, and radiology services. Both clinical facilities allow patients access to Colorectal Surgery, Urology, Gastroenterology, General Surgery, and Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy.

The candidate will be joining five additional FPMRS Board Certified physicians who comprise the Urogynecology division, at various UTHealth Houston sites.

Academic responsibilities include teaching medical students, residents, and fellows in the office, operating room, and inpatient settings at Memorial Hermann Hospital and working closely with general OB/GYN colleagues and those in other subspecialties.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  • Developing and sustaining an environment in the patient care units that supports excellence and innovation in clinical practice and patient care through assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating programs and standards that support positive patient care outcomes to include excellent risk-adjusted outcomes.

  • Performing a variety of staff management functions including the interviewing, hiring, evaluating, counseling, and terminating of assigned management, clinical, and support staff.

  • Facilitating, reviewing, and approving the budget for UTHealth Houston and Surgery Services, including estimates of future personnel and equipment needs; ensuring that hospital resources are optimally utilized through participation in strategic planning and financial budgeting processes, and development of practices that achieve specific objectives and resolution of unfavorable performance variances; providing leadership and implementing strategies to provide cost-effective quality care.

  • Providing coaching, mentoring, support, and consultation to clinical managers, attending physicians, research personnel, colleagues, and clinical staff.

  • Serving as role model in professional behavior and leadership skills, problem-solving ability, and interpersonal skills.

  • Delegating authority and accountability to clinical & nursing staff for clinical practice and patient care decisions that are consistent with professional standards, regulatory agencies, and organizational policies and procedures.

  • Identifying patient and family needs of the populations served; recommending and/or developing new programs and services to meet those needs; assuring that age-specific equipment, supplies, and educational resources are available for assigned units/services.

  • Collaborating with UTHealth Houston and hospital administration and physicians to identify future opportunities, and define the direction of department services; developing, and implementing plans to achieve identified goals, including OR efficiency, productivity, and patient throughput targets across the care continuum.

  • Maintaining an ongoing departmental Quality Improvement Plan and process consistent with the organizational Quality Management Plan; developing and implementing unit-specific standards, policies, and procedures that guide and support the provision of care and services; continuously assessing and improving assigned departments' performance while enhancing service.

  • Reviewing appropriate financial reports and making appropriate modifications in UTHealth Houston and MHH to reduce costs associated with supplies, staffing, and service agreements and/or identify sound alternatives for purchasing equipment and supplies.

  • Participating in and/or chairing committees, work groups, and meetings as appropriate.

  • Assuring interdisciplinary performance improvement programs are active, maintained, and ongoing. Following up to ensure that complaints have been satisfactorily handled. Collaborating to maintain a focus on providing excellent clinical service.

Qualifications:

Prior to the effective date of appointment, successful candidates must have:

· MD or DO degree

· Completed 4 years of OB/GYN residency

· OB/GYN Board Certification, or Board-eligible

· Completion of an ABOG-accredited FMPRS fellowship

· ABOG FPMRS Board Certification, or Board-eligible

· Unrestricted Texas medical license

· Federally-issued DEA license
