Job Description:

Responsibilities

The Program Research Specialist II (PRSII) will join a team of public health professionals in the Center for Environmental Health's Wastewater Surveillance program. The PRSII will provide programmatic support for environmental surveillance activities, including the statewide COVID-19 wastewater-based epidemiology program. The PRSII will be responsible for providing technical support for data collection and database management and performing data quality control activities. In addition, the PRSII will coordinate the collection of environmental samples and delivery to laboratories, and coordinate with CDC and state health department staff on data reporting and interpretation. The PRSII will also coordinate with regional program representatives and local, regional, and federal scientists/ collaborators around sewershed surveillance, prepare/edit written reports and make recommendations from data gathered to evaluate the impact on communities by considering clinical and environmental data. Other appropriate related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field and two years of research experience in the collection and analysis of data; OR an Associate's degree in a related field and four years of such experience; OR six years of such experience. A Master's degree in a related field may substitute for one year of such experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Graduate degree in a related field. Knowledge of microbiology; epidemiological investigations; environmental sampling and surveillance; and control of infectious and chronic diseases. Experience with project coordination, study protocols development emergency response activities, electronic data collection, database management and preparing reports. Experience performing epidemiology literature and data reviews and summarizing scientific literature. Experience in coordinating multidisciplinary projects and/or working with collaborators and staff remotely. Knowledge of wastewater surveillance for effects on human health. Knowledge of ArcGIS software, R programing. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint.

Conditions of Employment

Grant funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.

Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Travel, up to 25% of the time, will be required.


This position requires that the incumbent will report to the official work location and live within commuting distance to the official work location. Telecommuting will be available.
