Job Title: Director of Studio Programs

Reports To: District Executive Director, Arts Branch

Work Location: Arts & Education Branch, Syracuse, NY

FLSA: Exempt - Full time

Work Schedule: Mon-Fri 9 - 5 with some evenings and weekends

Salary Range: $58,500.00

Position Summary:

This position supports the mission and work of the Y, a leading nonprofit charitable organization. Under the direction of the District Executive Director for Arts and Education, the Director of Studio Programs oversees and manages the development, implementation, administration, and evaluation of assigned areas of operations to include; strategic planning for branch operations, program development, effective staff and volunteer supervision and development, fiscal management, financial development and fundraising, special events, community relations, and collaborations with community agencies. The Director of Studio Programs assures the well-being for each participant in line with YMCA of the USA guidelines and association policies in accordance with their training.

Salary and Benefits:

  • Salary: $58,500; Full-time exempt

Essential Functions:

  • Models the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with individuals and groups at all levels of the organization; supporting members connect with each other and the YMCA.

  • Maintains physical presence and always remains alert while on duty

  • Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures; completes related reports as required.

  • Creates, develops, and implements dynamic Arts programs that meet the branch objectives and national YMCA Arts standards, and responds to member needs.

  • Develops and adheres to the budgets for all Studio programs in the association.

  • Markets and promotes Arts Studio programs.

  • Teaches Studio Courses (recommended; two classes per session).

  • Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in Arts programs.

  • Coordinates all aspects of Arts Studio Arts programs.

  • Compiles program statistics and provides data and reports as required for Studio programs.

  • Establishes with the branch leadership team long-range plans for the expansion of Arts programs and services, in harmony with overall Y objectives.

  • Oversees the implementation of the branch-marketing plan for Studio programs, insuring membership goals are reached including retention and satisfaction indicators in the Arts Department.

  • Directs the planning, promotion and implementation of new Arts programs in order to see continued growth in accordance with branch goals, creating partnerships where appropriate.

  • Monitors and analyzes the Studio evaluation systems, making recommendations as needed.

  • Provides leadership and support to the annual fundraising campaign to support the YMCA vision and mission.

  • Assesses the inclusion of the Y’s mission, values and safety guidelines in all Studio programs.

  • Understand sand consistently administers the branch and association policies and procedures.

  • Provides leadership and oversight to Arts Studio ongoing preventive maintenance on equipment.

  • Purchases all program supplies and equipment.

  • Knows, follows, and enforces all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, procedures, and staff expectations, including those for the prevention of child abuse.

  • Ambassador of all YMCA programs with a focus on department offerings and member engagement.

  • Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed. Clean and store equipment per branch procedures.

  • Attends all mandatory meetings and trainings.

  • Is willing to step up, even if outside of the position description, to contribute to the overall success of the YMCA.

Experience, Education, and Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in an Arts-related field, or significant prior YMCA management experience coupled with a background in the arts.

• Three years of commensurate experience in supervision/management of visual and musical arts programs, staff, volunteers, budget, and program development.

• Due to the diversity of responsibilities, a high degree of organizational ability is needed, along with strong skills in supervision of staff and volunteer committees, program development, and communication skills.

• YMCA Team Leader or Multi-Team/Branch Leader certification preferred.

• Demonstrated ability to direct and produce positive results in assigned areas to include staff supervision and development, program development, fiscal management, planning, problem solving and financial development to include annual and special event fundraising.

• Proven ability to create new programs and grow program participation and revenue.

• Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.

• Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills are critical to the success of this position.

• Ability to make independent decisions and determine the appropriate course of action.

• Able to manage complex and difficult situations with a high level of professionalism.

• Strong organizational skills, self-starter with initiative to work independently.

• Must be computer proficient using Microsoft Office software programs and previous experience with database software programs.

• Passionate commitment to the Y’s mission, member relations, and the Y’s core values.

• Highly skilled in planning and implementation of administrative procedures and ability to enforce safe regulations.

• Maintains confidentiality with regard to all confidential matters of the association.

• Ability to think both conceptually and from a task-oriented approach.

• Ability to respond respectfully and accurately to questions and/or concerns from staff, volunteers, donors, business and community contacts.

• Complies with all applicable compliance and safety regulations and directives.

Trainings & Certifications: • Must complete annual safety, combating sexual-harassment, and child abuse prevention trainings assigned by human resources prior to direct service. • Must have current CPR and First Aid within the first 30 days of employment.

Physical Requirements: The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. • Prolonged periods of standing and frequent bending. • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.

Work Environment: This job operates in a recreational and/or educational environment. This role routinely uses standard recreation and/or office equipment. At times, employees may be exposed to undesirable working conditions, communicable infectious diseases, and risk of injury from others. All employees are required to always follow the preventative health policies of the YMCA. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to high.
