SVM- Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Full Professor of Veterinary Biomedical Sciences

St. George’s University invites applicants for a full-time teaching position as an Assistant or Associate Professor of Veterinary Biomedical Sciences, in the Department of Anatomy, Physiology, & Pharmacology in the School of Veterinary Medicine, beginning 8/5/2024.

Objective

Essential Functions

Instructional Activities:

Deliver academic activities, including lectures and laboratory sessions as indicated by the Department Chair and the Dean of the School, including, but not limited to, the following courses/disciplines:

• The interdisciplinary VM510, VM520, and VM530 courses are taught in terms one through three in the new system-based and integrated curriculum.

• Teaching support in other knowledge areas across the new and existing curricula.

Supplemental teaching

In addition to teaching in the core courses for the DVM program, faculty may be required to support departmental teaching in the graduate program and the pre-veterinary program as well as the Integrated Team Instruction delivery of the DVM program – small groups-based curriculum delivery.

Contribute to teaching in the following knowledge areas:

• Veterinary professionalism and Clinical Skills.

Research and Scholarly Activities:

• Actively engage in a research topic in a relevant area

• Support student research and learning through supervision and mentoring of selected students

• Contribute to curriculum review and innovation.

• Practice continuous quality improvement of the courses and content delivered by the department

• Active participation in scientific/educational conferences and Continued Education in Veterinary Medicine.

Service:

Participate in the following University activities:

• Assist in coordinating the "transition curriculum" for those students who require remediation.

• Departmental Reviews (as required)

• Faculty Meetings (as required)

• Special Committee Assignments (as assigned by the Dean)

• Administrative roles, as assigned by the Chair of the Department and/or the Dean

• Outreach efforts in the local community

• Contribute to the academic advisory system for all students enrolled in the DVM program.

• Faculty Senate

Qualifications:

DVM or equivalent degree plus the minimum of an earned Master's Degree (Assistant Professor) and a doctorate or Ph.D. degree (Associate/Full Professor).

Desirable Qualities:

• Experience with teaching veterinary biomedical sciences in the veterinary curriculum of an AVMA and/or RCVS accredited Veterinary School is strongly desirable for the associate and full professor levels.

• Documented research experience in veterinary biomedical sciences with an excellent record of peer-reviewed publications and scholarship, including a record of successful graduate student mentorship and administrative experience at the university level, are strongly desired for the associate and full professor levels.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills

• Excellent collaboration, active listening, and problem-solving skills.

• Excellent team player skills

• A commitment to the education of DVM and pre-veterinary students.

• Open to embracing new pedagogical approaches for teaching veterinary students.
