Ellis Medicine Cath Lab Technician in Schenectady, New York

Under general supervision from Cath Lab Manager, assists in performing general Cath Lab duties including but not limited to maintaining inventory of all supplies used in the department, assisting clinical staff with patient care in Cath Lab holding area, monitoring, recording, and analyzing of hemodynamics during procedures, organizing of stockroom on a daily basis to maintain control of inventory (par) levels, and working with Purchasing Department to place orders for all supplies stocked in the Cath Lab. Cath Lab tech will be responsible for maintaining good communication with all staff and manager relative to all functions of this job. In addition to regularly scheduled work days, he/she must be able to provide scheduled on-call coverage on a rotating basis with other staff members during department non-business hours.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

A high school diploma with a strong science background and specialized training in cardiology such as Applied Science degree in Cardiovascular Technology or other related medical field. BLS certification is mandatory. Cath Lab tech must have prior computer experience with Windows applications and must be able to prioritize and make independent decisions. Attention to detail is a necessary skill along with the ability to follow-up on all communication.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    The position is located indoors under normal working conditions. Should be able to push/pull 30-50 lb., lift/move 15 lb. from floor to table, be able to perform moderately difficult manual manipulations such as using a key board, writing and filing for extended periods of time, must be able to perform tasks which require hand-eye coordination such as data entry, typing and using photo copiers. Mobility requirements may include the ability to sit at a computer terminal or work station for a prolonged period of time in addition to being able to squat, stand and walk for a reasonable length of time and distance. Sensory requirements include the ability to articulate and comprehend the spoken English language in addition to being able to read the English language.

    VI. ORGANIZATION MEMBERSHIP PERFORMANCE STANDARDS AND RELATED MEASUREMENT CRITERIA:

    Measurement Criteria

    A.

    Cath Lab Tech will maintain supply inventory and all associated records.

      1.

    Accurate records are maintained of outside supplies ordered, received, and charged to the department.

      2.

    Supply levels in all procedure rooms, office area, and the storage area are kept at adequate par levels.

      3.

    Variances are promptly brought to the manager’s attention.

      4.

    Accuracy of computer records of supplies received and invoices paid are checked in a timely manner.

      5.

    An accurate log of supplies on order and files of pending partial orders is maintained.

      6.

    Orders supplies in a timely manner to maintain par levels and adjust par levels as needed.

      7.

    Insures rotation of stock and works with vendors to remove/transfer inventory items that are nearing expiration dates. Never allows expired items to remain on shelves.

    B.

    Cath Lab Tech will monitor and record patient EKG, pressures, and other data and provide assistance in the holding area under general guidance from the clinical staff.

      1.

    Significant changes in EKG waveforms, rhythm, or pressure waveforms are recognized and reported in a timely manner.

    Cath Lab Tech will accurately provide appropriate patient information on all data forms for each procedure.

      2.

    Assists RNs with preprocedure care of patients (on monitor, electrodes, etc.)

      3.

    Adequate communication with the cardiologist and procedure room staff is maintained. Maintains proper observation within the holding room, holds pressure post procedure, and notifies an RN if a patient condition changes.

      4.

    Transports medications (excluding controlled substances) under the direction of licensed personnel.

    C.

    Cath Lab Tech will carefully analyze hemodynamic and angiographic data.

      1.

    Accurately measures pressure data. Calculates valve areas, shunts, and resistances.

      2.

    Calculates valve areas, shunts, and resistances.

    Uses appropriate cinematography data to accurately calculate ejection fraction. Verifies with physician if calculation of drawn EF % is acceptable for report.

    D.

    Cath Lab Tech will maintain good communication and coordination with all staff members

      1.

    Informs manager of any changes in utilization trends or cost of supplies.

      2.

    Changes in schedule or other information will be thoroughly communicated to the Cath Lab staff.

      3.

    Actively participates in the cross-training process to fill in during vacations, sickness, etc.

      4.

    Contacts appropriate vendors and repair services for supplies or equipment problems.

      5.

    Fully utilizes free time in productive, useful duties.

    E.

    Adheres to the policies and procedures as outlined in the Exposure Control Manual regarding:

      1.

    Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the policies and procedures outlined in the Exposure Control Plan.

    Practices safe work techniques and utilize proper engineering controls to minimize the risk of bloodborne pathogen exposure.

    Salary Range: $14.62-$19.84/hour Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
