Description

The Department of Athleticsis seeking afull time,Assistant Director for Compliance & Student Developmentto provide leadership and student-athlete development for Redhawks athletics while maintaining and monitoring sound programming related to compliance with all NCAA, East Coast Conference (ECC), and Roberts Wesleyan University rules and regulations and demonstrating institutional control. The Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance and Student-Athlete Development is responsible for facilitating tools and programs to assist with academic success, development and retention of student-athletes. This includes overseeing the academic progress from matriculation to graduation by assisting student athletes in developing a responsible approach to academic planning, monitoring academic performance and providing targeted academic support for at-risk student athletes.

Compliance Duties (50%):Monitor and administer compliance regulations within the institution including educating athletic coaches, staff, and student-athletes on NCAA Division II and East Coast Conference Compliance regulations.

  • Coordinate and/or conduct meetings on a regular basis with athletic coaches, administration, university constituencies, current and prospective student-athletes, and boosters, as needed.

  • Provide updates to all interested parties on explanation of rules, rule changes, and processes required for compliant participation.

  • Work closely with new coaches to ensure that they are working within NCAA Division II and East Coast Conference compliance rules.

  • Oversee and monitor the administration of visits and tryouts, camps, clinics, complimentary admissions, declaration of practices, playing seasons, recruiting contacts, and CARA reports.

  • Monitor and update eligibility lists, seasons of competition, progress towards degree requirements, and student-athlete information through CA.

  • Assist prospective and new-student athletes in evaluating eligibility as a new student or transfer student, including initial eligibility reports.

  • Administer NLI (national letter of intent) and submit returning student-athlete financial aid reports.

  • Identify, investigate, and report any and all NCAA rules violations.

  • Complete all required NCAA compliance reports.

Student Development Duties (40%):Develop, coordinate, and implement academic support services for student-athletes as well as student-athlete development opportunities.

  • Develop and implement a program for academic support services for student-athletes.

  • Oversee progress reports during the fall/spring semester and conduct follow-up meetings with student-athletes and coaches to develop individualized academic support strategies.

  • Assist in academic advising related to student-athlete eligibility.

  • Assist student athletes in developing a responsible approach to academic planning and monitoring academic performance through programming.

  • Serve as a liaison along with Faculty Athlete Mentor (FAM), Faculty Athlete Representatives (FAR), and athletic coaches in support of the academic needs of student athletes

  • Facilitate Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) programming.

  • Aid in developing workshops for personal development, leadership development, and career readiness.

  • Serve as a liaison between the Athletics Department and the Office of Admissions, Office of Registration, and the Office of Financial Aid, for all compliance related services for student-athletes and athletics.

Institutional Duties (10%):Develop, coordinate, and implement academic support services for student-athletes as well as student-athlete development opportunities.

  • Represent Roberts Wesleyan University in the community and in professional organizations through conferences and national meetings.

  • Support the physical, emotional, and social well-being of student-athletes in the program, including gender issues and ethnic diversity.

  • Establish a safe environment for student-athletes (e.g., education on and methods for discussing and resolving harassment or discrimination).

  • Assist athletic administrative staff with other duties and responsibilities as needed.

  • Participate on Athletics Department committees for Strategic Initiatives as assigned.

  • Adhere to RW’s policies and procedures as well as ethical standards of behavior.

  • As a member of the Athletics Department staff, all staff are responsible for:

  • Supporting NCAA compliance within the Department by promoting an atmosphere of compliance with NCAA rules within their programs and monitoring compliance by all assistant coaches and/or others involved with the program.

  • Self-reporting any NCAA rules violations as soon as they are discovered.

  • Participating in annual or more frequent continuing education programs regarding NCAA rules.

  • Maintaining current certification in first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automatic external defibrillator (AED) use.

  • Abiding by all safety policies and procedures.

  • Understanding that violation of NCAA rules is prohibited and may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.

The approved salary for this position is $58,458.40/annually.

Requirements

A Master’s degree and 3-5 years administrative experience at a college or in a sports field, including knowledge of NCAA compliance regulations. Strong organizational and data management skills required, including high detail-orientation and commitment to accuracy. Must be able to work effectively with people at all levels of the institution. A successful candidate will be able to demonstrate cultural competence and must value the principles of diversity and equity.
