Watco Companies L.L.C. Operator - Queens, NY in NY, United States

Schedule: 2:00 PM - 12AM Midnight, 6 days a week, 40 hrs

Pay Rate - $23.00 per hour

The Queens terminal is a transload terminal handling containers supporting Customer Waste Management. At this terminal, Watco Team Members bring railcars over from the New York & Atlantic Railway (NY&A) to the Review Avenue terminal. In addition to providing switching services, the Watco Team Members unload the container from the railcar, place it inside the Solid Waste Transfer Station where our customer loads the container. Watco Team Members then remove the container from the building and place it back on the railcar. Once the entire cut of railcars has been loaded, Watco Team Members then move the railcars back to the NY&A rail yard for interchange.

Description

  • Must maintain regular, dependable attendance and a high level of performance

  • Follow written and verbal directions to complete assigned tasks on schedule.

  • Read, write, and communicate in English & understand basic math.

  • Learn from directions, observations, and mistakes and apply procedures using good judgment.

  • Working knowledge of Watco Safety and Operating principles

  • Transloading of: containers supporting Customer Waste Management.

  • Operation of Reach Stacker

  • Operation of Railcar Mover - Shuttlewagon

  • Complete all applicable documentation, recordkeeping and daily inventory.

  • Must be able to bend, stoop, lift up to 50 pounds alone, twist, climb. Must be able to talk and hear well enough to communicate with all team members, vendors, and customers 100% of the time

  • Participate in safety briefings, job briefings, and any other pass on information from team members, management or customer.

  • Operate in a manner where SAFETY and ENVIRONMENT are of the highest importance.

  • Climb onto top and underneath railcars in order to inspect and seal railcars using a checklist

  • Perform structural inspections as required.

  • Prepare equipment for product transfer.

  • Start, stop, and operate engines/pumps within defined operating parameters.

  • Perform all work in compliance with Company standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

  • Ability to work outside majority of the time and withstand extreme weather conditions.

  • Must maintain regular, dependable attendance and a high level of performance

  • Must be able to work with a team, take direction and follow work rules, as well as, take on additional job responsibilities as needed or assigned.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Valid driver's license preferred

Machines, Tools, Special Equipment, Personal Protective Equipment Used:

  • Reach stacker/container handler, railcar mover - shuttlewagon, impact guns, air tools, man lift to work in load out, be able to operate a vehicle, raise and lower loading arms, wire cutters to cut zip ties, power tools, wrenches.

  • PPE; FR clothing, vest, hard hat, gloves, steel toed boots, safety glasses, radio
