UL, LLC Data Privacy Manager in Northbrook, Illinois

The successful candidate will join the Data Privacy team reporting to the Data Privacy Director in supporting the UL Solutions enterprise with the compliance requirements arising from the Personal Information Protection Act in China and related Regulatory requirements globally. The successful candidate will be the point of contact for UL Solutions colleagues in respect of queries on data protection in China. The role requires performing the function as Data Protection Officer and point of contact for UL Solutions entities with relevant statutory authorities in China, including the Cyberspace Administration of China. Provide advice and guidance, directing colleagues and others to the relevant policies and procedures and to exercise good judgement to escalate any breaches and requests to the Data Privacy Director when required. To log and track any information required to ensure that UL Solutions is operating within regulatory guidelines and update the Data Privacy Director with trends analysis for process improvement and reporting.

  • Manage, track, and respond to the data privacy responsibilities in China in line with UL Solutions policy procedures and requirements.

  • Perform the function as point of contact for UL Solutions with relevant statutory authorities in China, including the Cyberspace Administration of China.

  • Respond to Data Subject Access requests within the required timeframe.

  • Notify the Data Privacy Director of any failures to comply with PIPL requirements, including data breaches or incidents and escalate when required.

  • Assist in the investigation of any data breaches or incidents identified.

  • Support the UL Solutions enterprise on Data Protection and PIPL topics.

  • Monitor all security incidents relating to personal data processing issues in China.

  • Monitor regulatory requirements and deadlines in China and agreed SLAs to ensure that UL is compliant.

  • Provide support and guidance to the business on a day-to-day basis regarding PIPL requirements, including updates to any policies and procedures.

  • Provide assistance to the Data Privacy Director and the team around developing and delivering necessary training in PIPL requirements and related global privacy regulations relevant to UL Solutions.

  • Provide support around conducting Data Protection Impact Assessments in China.

  • Provide support in the areas of conducting in-country regulatory specific privacy assessments.

  • Support the Data Privacy Director on specific issues and tasks as required.

  • Support quarterly audits according to the annual audit plan. Manage the resulting report to resolve all issues identified.

  • Ability to communicate well in English and Chinese language, orally and in written form.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and manage sensitive/confidential data.

  • University Degree or equivalent in Information Technology or similar role related field.

  • University degree in data protection and privacy or similar related field preferred.

  • A minimum of 2/3 years’ experience in data protection and privacy compliance related field.

  • Strong project and team management skills.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to create and present reports on data protection issues.

  • Ability to work well as an individual and as part of a team.
