Falvey Insurance Group Assistant Controller in North Kingstown, Rhode Island

Summary of Position The Assistant Controller plays a critical role in maintaining the financial health of Falvey Insurance Group. The ideal candidate requires technical accounting and analytical skills with also leadership capabilities. The Assistant Controller will assist in the management of day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, and budgeting activities. Candidates must have or be in the process of obtaining their CPA. 

Position Functions

  • Lead a team of senior and staff accountants in the day-to-day operations of the finance department, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, bordereaux preparation, cash management, bank reconciliation, staffing needs and training.

     

  • Evaluate, modify and/or establish accounting processes and practices to ensure financial accountability and controls while maintaining operational excellence and exceptional customer service.

     

  • Manage the month-end and year-end close process.

     

  • Prepare monthly financial statements and assist Financial Analyst with the preparation of the financial package presented to the C-Suite and Falvey Board.

     

  • Conduct semi-annual and annual performance reviews.

     

  • Manage the annual audit of audited financial statements.

     

  • Assist tax firm with the preparation of required documentation and reporting for tax filing.

     

  • Assess current departmental workflows and implement process improvements to strive for operation excellence.

     

  • Collaborate with Operations Department on system updates and improvements.

     

  • Monitor changes to GAAP and other compliance standards and implement changes as needed.

    Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

    Demonstrate effective interpersonal, organizational and presentation skills through both verbal and written communication with the ability to share knowledge and work effectively in a team environment in a professional manner with all level of company staff including management and other departments as well as outside vendors.  

    Ability to work independently and use personal computer, calculator, company automation system and proficiency in various software programs, including but not limited to Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat, Financial Software (Great Plains), Audit, Accounting, Analyzing Information. Other Requirements Bachelor or Master’s Degree in Accounting required. 

CPA Required or in progress 

3 years of experience working as a Senior Accountant  Physical Requirements Must be able to sit and work quietly for extended periods of time, operate a computer, and communicate on a telephone.

Supervisory Responsibilities Responsible for Supervision of a portion of the Finance Accountant team . Equipment Used

Computer, telephone, fax machine, copy machine, postage meter, scanner.

Hours of Operation and Working Conditions This position supports our marketing efforts internationally. This position's work hours are Monday through Friday 9am - 5pm, in a hybrid work environment.  Our hybrid environment is 3 days within our business-casual office environment. Of these 3 days in the office, Wednesday is required. The other 2 days’ work from home, and our employees choose their schedule.  This position requires occasional flexibility for working additional hours to accomplish project objectives.
