Position Summary

Columbia University Athletics seeks a highly-motivated individual with strong television broadcast, video production, social media and communication skills for the part-time position of Multimedia Specialist. The successful candidate will be responsible for the direction and production of multimedia content that connects Columbia student-athletes, coaches and administrators to its fans, followers and alumni network. The individual will also serve as a primary athletics communications contact for Olympic sports as assigned. This position will serve as the media liaison/contact between the athletic department and local/regional/national media representatives. In addition, the selected individual will create website content and manage all assigned social media accounts for respective programs.

Responsibilities

  • Cultivate, write, produce and promote broadcast video features on Columbia sporting events, programs, special events, teams, coaches and student-athletes for all sport.

  • Serve as storyteller, reporter, writer and producer for all sport.

  • Create video related content for www.gocolumbialions.com, Ivy League Network on ESPN and Columbia social media accounts

  • Capture, edit and produce pro-Columbia feature content (video, audio and written);

  • Develop and manage publicity for various teams, serving as the primary public relations contact for several assigned Olympic sports and assist with coverage for other sports;

  • Write, research, compile and edit various athletic department communications materials including press releases, game notes, game programs and feature articles;

  • Responsible for updating record books and student-athlete/coaches' bios in a timely and effective manner;

  • Responsible for maintaining statistical archives both current and historical for designated sports;

  • Assist in overall maintenance and upkeep of athletic department website (www.gocolumbialions.com) with specific focus on assigned sports;

  • Coordinate game day operations and supervise game day staff for assigned Olympic sports;

  • Manage all host responsibilities in regards to television, media members;

  • Promote student-athletes for various national, regional and conference awards; Contribute to the department's social media communication efforts;

  • Serve as social media contact for assigned sports;

  • Assist in mentoring and assigning projects to student workers and interns;

  • Arrange public appearances and coordinate interviews with head coach and student-athletes for assigned sports.

  • Comply with all NCAA, Ivy League and Columbia rules, regulations and policies.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 0-2 years experience.

  • Bachelors degree and/or equivalent related experience required

Preferred Qualifications

Television/video/multi-media experience; experience with video production and video editing;

Desire to get into the athletics communications, TV broadcast or multimedia field;

Experience in a collegiate or professional athletic communications/media relations/sports information setting;

Highly motivated with a willingness to learn;

Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or related field;

Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal); High-level of customer service and ability to handle multiple tasks;

Able to meet deadlines with superior organization skills;

Proficiency with online and desktop publishing, including InDesign, Photoshop;

Familiarity with StatCrew and online publishing software;

Experience in working with social media tools;

Flexibility to travel and work night and weekend hours.
