The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Associate Dean of Professional Affairs, the Judicial Clerkships Advisor works with the CLS Office of Judicial Careers to deliver counseling, coaching, research, and related services for J.D. and LL.M. students interested in judicial clerkships and careers. The advisor also provides support for the development and execution of related career education programming through the Office of Judicial Careers.

Responsibilities

  • Counsel J.D. and LL.M. students and alumni on judicial clerkship strategy, clerkship application materials, and interview preparation. Tailor counseling and coaching to students based on specific needs and interests and for all aspects of judicial clerkships, across geographic areas and types of courts. Provide general student counseling as needed. Offer counseling services to all students, including through career counseling meetings, mock interviews, writing sample review, and resume and cover letter edits.
  • Develop and maintain expertise of judicial clerkship opportunities and strategies, including through alumni networks, faculty outreach, and hiring trends. Identify best practices for robust judicial clerkship application support to ensure exceptional programs, resources, and application support for students and alumni.
  • Assist in designing strategies to identify, reach, and serve all students with judicial clerkship and career inspirations.
  • Utilize external-facing and internal-facing technology resources relating to judicial clerkship information and events, including Courseworks, Symplicity, and Research Library resources. Leverage communication tools to maximize participation of students seeking judicial clerkship opportunities.
  • Work in close collaboration with Office of Judicial Careers on designing and delivering educational material for students related to judicial clerkships. Provide general support for programming and educational materials as needed.
  • Educate and collaborate with colleagues across the Professional Affairs Administration, when relevant, to ensure integrated career advising services for students.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; Juris Doctor preferred. Must have 3-5 years' experience in the legal field, counseling field, or in another professional field. Experience, either as a judicial clerk, and/or working as a judicial clerkship counselor, is highly preferred. Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills required.
