Position Summary

The Department of Pediatrics is seeking a Technician B to join our team in a full time position. Columbia University Medical Center’s Department of Pediatrics is a world leader in providing care for children. Our mission areas include Healthcare, Education and Research. Our Clinical, Translational and Basic Science research features collaborations across specialties and stretches from the bench to bedside. We also have several active Clinical trials available to our patients. This position will support the department by providing research support to multiple PI’s in the Division of Oncology, Hem, and BMT on grant supported projects.


The Technician B position will work closely with the PI, postdoc researchers, and other staff, to support grant supported various projects.

  • General lab duties will include: ordering and maintaining inventory, organizing reagents, cleaning and maintenance of incubators, cataloguing frozen samples, maintenance of log books, as well as drafting, updating and organizing SOPs

  • Experimental duties will include: isolation from fresh tissue and expansion of cells in culture, maintenance of iPS cell lines (including reprogramming and differentiation) and primary cell lines, molecular biology and biochemistry analyses, gene editing using CRISPR technology, nucleic acid and protein isolation, preparing samples for gene sequencing, tissue construction, maintenance of cell cultures, preparation of reagents, and keeping meticulous record of experiments.

  • Will assist team in assays, sequencing, staining, sample preparation, maintenance of cell lines.

  • Performs other related duties necessary to the function of the laboratory

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in biochemistry, biology, molecular biology or related science or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
