Position Summary

The Technician B will assist a multidisciplinary team of researchers in the implementation and conduct of biomedical research studies, including epidemiological and clinical research studies related to COVID-19 and other infectious diseases.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex assignments while following standard protocols and standard operating procedures that require technical proficiency and make detailed observations and manipulations.

  • Perform PBMC isolation and cryopreservation, biopsy processing.

  • Assist with diverse laboratory techniques including virologic assays, genotyping, and serum and plasma separation.

  • Perform assays, preparation of stock or working solutions, calibration of equipment for experiments, and specimen accession, processing, and quality control, in accordance with assigned protocols.

  • Responsible for the safe, timely and efficient transport of human specimens from the clinics to the laboratory; and of research study product from the Research Pharmacy to the Clinical Research Site(s).

  • Assist with development and QC of assigned Standard Operating Procedures, setting up new assays, sample processing documents and general laboratory operation manuals.

  • Help maintain laboratory equipment, order laboratory supplies, and ensure communication between clinic and laboratory.

  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology or physics or related science or equivalent in education, training and experience

  • Bright, self-motivated and highly organized

  • Ability to work independently as well as with others in a clinical research setting

  • Strong decision-making skills and independent problem solving skills

  • Orientation to detail with ability to maintain accurate records

  • Ability to handle multiple projects and interact with staff at all levels is required.

  • Strong computer and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of COVID, prevention strategies, HIV/AIDS and Infectious disease or other clinical and laboratory research

  • Spanish language skills

Other Requirements

  • The candidate selected for this position is required to undergo a drug screening test prior to a final offer of employment being made

  • Participation in the medical surveillance program

  • Contact with patients and/or human research subjects

  • Potential bloodborne pathogen exposure

  • Successful completion of applicable compliance and system training requirements
