Position Summary

Working in the Human Immune Monitoring Core (HIMC) within the Columbia Center for Translational Immunology (CCTI), the Technician A will help maintain and troubleshoot a CyTOF (cytometry by time-of-flight) instrument in collaboration with the core manager and with the manufacturer’s engineers. The technician will join a research team focused on building a culture that embraces scientific excellence, integrity, effectiveness, efficiency, teamwork, and continuous learning and improvement.


  • Maintain and troubleshoot the instrument in collaboration with the core manager and with the manufacturer’s engineers

  • Prepare and manage analysis reagents using well-established protocols

  • Generate reagents (such as conjugated antibodies) for use in CyTOF analysis

  • Titrate, quality control, update and maintain inventory for all reagents

  • Prepare clinical and laboratory samples for analysis

  • Isolate cells from blood and tissues, and stain cells using reagents prior to analysis on the CyTOF

  • Maintain log of all samples

  • Process data and assist with data analysis

  • Process raw data acquired from the instrument, and assist other team members and users with analysis of high-parametric cytometry data

  • Assist in the development of innovative assays, methods, and reagents

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two years of college or a completed A.A. program with an emphasis in chemistry, biology or physics

  • One year of related experience, or equivalent in education, training and experience

  • Familiarity with biology terminology and techniques

  • Familiarity with Python and R programming languages

  • Ability to perform work in a neat, orderly, and accurate manner

  • Ability to keep accurate and up-to-date records

Other Requirements

  • Participation in the medical surveillance program

  • Potential bloodborne pathogen exposure
