The Trustees of Columbia University in the City of New York Staff Associate II in New York, New York

The Department of Biological Sciences invites applications for a Program Manager (PM) to be appointed at the rank of Staff Associate II for an RM1 grant (Reexamining the role of dendrites in neuronal function), involving 5 additional laboratories at Harvard, MIT, NYU, Stanford and Hebrew University. This project will becoordinated by the PM located at Columbia University reporting to thePI. The PMwill lead adoption of management best practices, working with the team to define the project scope work breakdown structure (WBS, developed from the milestones and deliverables described in the proposal) and establish a baseline to track progress. The PM will coordinate project activities, organize work sessions, track progress, define and manage change control, ensure adequate project documentation and provide regular project status updates. The PM will work with departmental and institutional finance administrators to track spending. The PM will work with the team to identify risks and mitigation plans during project planning and manage risks during execution.

Responsibilities:

20%. Coordinating research projects. Exchange of reagents, equipment, data, information and software to ensure that the 6 different laboratories can complete the 5 specific tasks assigned in the project RM1 grant (Reexamining the role of dendrites in neuronal function)

20% Managing difficulties in research projects. Troubleshooting reagents, equipment, data, information and software, analysis and computational issues related to the 5 different tasks of the grant.

20% Solving unexpected roadblocks in research projects. Similar to preceeding responsibility, but focusing on issues not explicitly described in the troubleshooting section of the grant.

20% Helping with project objectives in research projects. Assuring that the team covers the milestones that are part of the Gantt chart of the grant.

20% Communicating with entire team. Organizing and running a set of in person or remote weekly, monthly and yearly meetings among all participants.


BA in Biology or Neuroscience

Basic laboratory skills, administrative skills, good scientific communication

At least 5 years of related experience as PM or lab manager
