Columbia University Sr Grants Financial Analyst - Cardiology in New York, New York

Position Summary

Reporting to the Cardiology Research Administrator, the Sr. Grants Financial Analyst will assist with managing the post award financial operations and financial reporting of various sections within the Division of Cardiology.


  • Perform post-award activities including detailed reconciliation of project budgets, development of budget projections, make any adjustments to project budgets to meet project goals in compliance with sponsor and institutional policies, and provide assistance and oversight to effort management.

  • Monitor budgets and expenses related to sponsored projects and internal projects.

  • Provide analytical and management support for activities related to sponsored projects and will assure adherence to budget line item allowances.

  • Conduct variance analysis, analyze personnel effort allocation, project costs, and prepare adjustments at the principal investigator's direction.

  • Plan, organize and prioritize actions across multiple awards and investigators' portfolios.

  • Ensure appropriate charging of expenses and integration of data and advise Cardiology Research Administrator on financial issues and recommend alternative spending strategies.

  • Prepare and distribute monthly financial reports for all sponsored projects, discretionary and program projects.

  • Manage renewals, extensions and closeouts of grants, including final financial reporting to the sponsor, along with ensuring financial compliance with sponsor requirements and regulations.

  • Manage manage deadlines, deliverables, meeting schedule and expectations proactively and maintain all grant financial records for restricted and unrestricted projects.

  • Perform other responsibilities as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business or equivalent in education and experience, plus at least four years of progressive related financial experience in a large complex organization, preferably in a healthcare or a university setting.

  • Ability to manage and work effectively with complex financial systems, models and methodologies.

  • Ability to research and prepare comprehensive reports; plan, implement, and evaluate programs and services.

  • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with faculty, staff and administrators at all levels.

  • Must demonstrate the ability to perform insightful financial analysis in a research administration environment.

  • Excellent written/oral communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills needed.

  • Expert-level computer skills including MS Excel, data warehouse and reporting tools, queries and reports.
