The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Senior Technician must be able to perform, analyze, and interpret the clinical testing results and assign HLA-class I and class II typing upon completion of the training. Senior Technician must be able to perform serum screening of anti-HLA antibodies by CDC and Luminex-based SPA upon completion of training. The Senior Technician must be able to crossmatch with both CDC and FCXM upon completion of training. Senior Technician must serve on-call coverage for deceased donor cross-matching and can make independent judgments without supervision upon completion of training.

The Senior Technician is responsible for maintaining equipment and records; performing proficiency testing, quality control, and quality assurance activities; performing miscellaneous functions required to maintain smooth department operation, such as reagent ordering, inventory control, and reagent preparation; and is required to use the laboratory information systems (LIS) for clinical operation.

Responsibilities

The Senior Technician performs high-complexity histocompatibility testing on blood and tissue samples of patients and donors for solid organ and bone marrow transplantation, as well as HLA-related disease associations and treatment. The Senior Technician must take turns serving on-call coverage for deceased donors cross-matching during off hours and holidays upon receiving the NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist (CLT) license.

  • 25% - Senior Technician must be able to perform, analyze, and interpret the clinical testing results and assign HLA-class I and class II typing upon completion of the training.

  • 25% - Senior Technician must serve on-call coverage for deceased donor cross-matching and can make independent judgments without supervision upon completion of training.
  • 20% - Maintains equipment and records; performs proficiency testing, quality control, and quality assurance activities; performs miscellaneous functions required to maintain smooth department operation, such as reagent ordering, inventory control, and reagent preparation; and is required to use the laboratory information systems (LIS) for clinical operation.
  • 5% - Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or at least one and one-half years of related experience or equivalent in education, training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in natural sciences (Chemistry or Biology preferred) plus 2+ years of specialized experience in high-complexity histocompatibility testing in a clinical laboratory setting.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English with colleagues and outside personnel.

  • NYS CLT licensure holder.

  • The Senior Technician must hold an NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist (CLT) licensure, or the laboratory will sponsor training if necessary. For sponsorship of training, the candidate must be qualified as a trainee for our NYS-approved histocompatibility training program. The candidate must receive the NYS CLT license within 12 months from the start date of our training program, as indicated by the training certificate, to practice as a clinical laboratory technologist.
