Title: Senior Sleep Technician

Location: Upper East Side

Org Unit: Pulmonary and Allergy

Work Days: Night Shift and some Weekends

Exemption Status: Non-Exempt-Hrly

Salary Range: $46.04 - $50.22

*As required under NYC Human Rights Law Int 1208-2018 - Salary range for this role when Hired for NYC Offices

Position Summary

A sleep technologist works under the general supervision of the Associate Director or designee to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders, including in-center sleep testing, diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, comprehensive patient care, and direct patient education. A sleep technologist can perform the duties defined for a sleep technician and can provide oversight of other sleep center staff.

Job Responsibilities

  • Confirm demographic data for patients and/or input patient information into the patient's chart on the polysomnogram system.

  • Follow procedural protocols to ensure the collection of appropriate data.

  • Perform appropriate physiological calibrations to ensure proper signals and make required adjustments.

  • Perform data acquisition while monitoring study-tracing quality to ensure signals are artifact-free. Identify, correct, and document artifacts

  • Document routine observations, including sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedure, and other significant events to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results.

  • Implement appropriate interventions (including actions necessary for patient safety and therapeutic intervention such as positive airway pressure, oxygen administration, etc)

  • Able to monitor and administer treatment to complex patients that require advanced management, which includes but is not limited to ASV and IVAPs titrations.

  • Provides training to junior technologists and PSG interns

  • Assists in quality control initiatives for the lab

Education

  • Graduate from a CoaPSG accredited program or NYS-approved equivalent

  • Maintain 50 CEU's every five years

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Sleep Technologist.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Comply with applicable laws, regulations, guidelines, and safety and infection control standards

  • Perform routine equipment care and maintenance and inventory evaluation.

  • Evaluate sleep study-related equipment and inventory.

  • Demonstrate the ability to analyze complex situations and apply policy.

  • Assist the medical director and/or manager in all aspects of sleep center operations.

Licenses and Certifications

  • NYS Polysomnographic Technologist Licensure.

  • NYS Polysomnographic Technologist Registration

  • BLS Certification (issued by the American Heart Association)

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

This position requires night work in an outpatient clinical laboratory environment with close patient contact.
