The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Established in July 2022, Columbia Global (CG) brings together major initiatives from across the university to advance knowledge and foster global engagement to address complex global challenges. Through interdisciplinary research, education, collaboration, and directed action, Columbia Global fosters groundbreaking scholarship, facilitates leadership development, advances cutting-edge thinking, and implements projects designed for social impact.

Reporting to the Director of Global Programming, the Senior Project Officer for Global Programs (SPO) plays a key and active role in advancing the global and country-specific programs within the Columbia Global Centers, which are located in 11 cities around the world. The SPO will work with the Director to develop annual program plans describing the details of major initiatives, projects, and programs at the Columbia Global Centers, as well as monitor and track program implementation and execution. The SPO will support the development of program design, project work plans, timelines, budgets, and budget narratives. The SPO will provide technical support to Columbia Global Centers on program development, implementation, start-up and close-out, program reporting, and proposal development for grant and donor awards. Critical to successful program planning is establishing close working relationships with the Global Center senior programming staff.

Responsibilities

Program Development and Management (75%)

  • Support the design and implementation of impactful programs led by the Columbia Global Centers. This will include assessing feasibility of program plans; helping to define goals and objectives; working with teams on their theory of change; and developing thoughtful and innovative approaches to activities.
  • Provide support to calls for proposals and calls for fellows/scholars, with a focus on the annual grants of the President's Global Innovation Fund and a variety of other fellowship and scholarly programs that are run through the Columbia Global Centers.
  • Help design and support educational opportunities at the Columbia Global Centers for students from Columbia-affiliated schools.
  • Support the planning, development, and implementation of new projects and initiatives across the Global Center network.
  • Support fundraising and revenue-generating activities and proposal development, helping to write compelling and award-worthy narratives that highlight impact, value, and sustainability.
  • Assist in budget development for new proposals and ongoing programs.
  • Manage the development or editing of annual, quarterly, and/or monthly program and progress reports.
  • Facilitate collaboration and maintain effective relationships across the Global Centers, other Columbia Global programs, and university partners.

Systems Management (10%)

  • Collaborate with key Columbia Global teams (i.e., Operations, MEL, etc.) by providing inputs to system design plans that account for program impact and effectiveness.
  • Contribute to systems that track and generate reports on activities in the Global Centers and ensure the systems align with other Columbia Global reports.
  • Contribute to mechanisms for managing collaborative processes/workflows, in harmony with other Columbia Global systems.

Program Coordination (10%)

  • Coordinate key work planning and program development meetings (virtual and in-person) between Columbia Global program and Global Center staff, other programs, and funding partners.
  • Support the organization of internal annual/semi-annual, in-person program meetings during Global Center staff NY visits, collaborating with the Columbia Global administration team to ensure all requirements for successful and smooth program-related meetings are met (logistics, travel, venue identification, catering, etc.).
  • Provide logistical support for executing public NY events in partnership with the Columbia Global Center staff and ensure event plans are executed in a timely manner and remain within budget.

Other programmatic tasks as assigned (5%)

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required. Advanced degree preferred. Three (3) to five (5) years of related experience such as developing international programs and managing complex projects, ideally in a higher education environment.
