Advertised Summary Job Description This position is located on the Lamont Campus in Rockland County, NY.

The Research Staff Assistant will carry out preparations and analyses of rock and sediment materials to support several ongoing projects. All preparations will be in support of projects related to geochronology and thermochronology and will primarily be disaggregating and performing mineral separations on pebbles and rocks from Antarctica the Turkana Basin of Kenya for sediment provenance and thermochronology work. The work will also include preparation of volcanic samples for Ar-Ar dating.

The Research Staff Assistant will be supervised by a Professor in DEES, and will receive on-site guidance in the absence of the supervisor from a PDRS and Administrative Assistant. The Research Staff Assistant will not supervise others.

Minimum Qualifications for Grade

Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant High school diploma or equivalent, and a minimum of between 0-3 months of experience in a research environment required. Bachelor's degree in geology or a related field preferred.

Some familiarity with lab procedures.

Must be meticulous in the lab with handling the samples and with careful note-taking.
