Position Summary

Reporting to the Division of Digestive & Liver Diseases Practice Administrator and Division leadership, the Practice Coordinator is primarily responsible for the day to day oversight of the practice operations of the Division. The Coordinator will be based at the Milstein campus faculty practice site and will provide oversight of other practice locations including the Allen Hospital, the Corlear Ave Practice, East 86th Street and ColumbiaDoctors Midtown. This includes supervising support staff, monitoring facility management, oversight of front-end revenue cycle processes, and assisting with overall practice management.


  • Support practice administrator in hiring, training and mentoring new staff members (medical secretaries, medical assistants etc.).

  • Ensure appropriate staff coverage for practice sites, oversee patient and provider workflow, and medical supply inventory where applicable.

  • Support practice administrator in the oversight of front end revenue cycle operations including scheduling, registration, insurance verification, referrals/authorizations & cash management.

  • Function as a CROWN "Super User" for all aspects of clinical and billing components of the application to provide guidance to physicians and support staff.

  • Support practice administrator in monitoring and provide resolution for missing charges, TES edits, ETM requests, and other inquiries from the billing office, as these pertain to practice revenue.

  • Ensure prompt response to requests for medical records and other information, from the FPO, PBS and the Compliance office.

  • Serve as approver for TOS Cash/Credit Card Management Reconciliation.

  • Create and provide support for master scheduling templates and provider scheduling changes.

  • Together with practice administrator, serve as liaison between practices and FPO facilities including expediting requests for maintenance and housekeeping.

  • Identify improvement opportunities relating to the practice.

  • Work with Patient Relations and physician offices to resolve patient complaints.

  • Assist with Managed Care credentialing and re-credentialing.

  • Perform other related duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree plus two years of related experience or equivalent in education and experience

  • Proven track record of strong management, organizational, and customer service skills

  • Ability to effectively interact with all levels of staff

  • Expertise in physician reimbursement, including knowledge of billing, CPT and ICD-9/10, and procedure scheduling

  • Knowledge of practice management software for large medical centers, such as IDX

  • Practical knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
