Columbia University Postdoctoral Research Scientist in New York, New York
Job Requisition Number 0000744
Field(s) of Specialization
Position Title Postdoctoral Research Scientist
Department NEU Neurology
Location Medical Center
A post-doctoral opportunity in sensory neuron biology is available in the de Nooij laboratory at Columbia University (New York, NY). Research in the de Nooij lab is aimed at understanding proprioceptor development and function through the use of in vivo mouse models and ES/iPSC-based in vitro models. (Please see http://columbiadenooijlab.org/ for additional information). The current research position is for a project to discern the circuitry and function of distinct proprioceptor subclasses (e.g. group Ia/II muscle spindle afferents and group Ib GTO afferents). These studies will require a range of interdisciplinary approaches, including AAV/Rabies virus-based analysis of proprioceptor circuits, and the development of behavioral paradigms to assess the contribution of MS and GTO afferents in motor control.
Minimum Degree Required
M.D. and/or Ph.D.
Background in molecular biology and mouse genetics, strong laboratory and analytical skills, effective organizational/project management abilities, proficiency in verbal and written communication, and excellent interpersonal skills.
Previous working experience with AAV and/or Rabies viruses is highly desired but not essential.
Preferred candidate who holds a Ph.D. degree in a sensory-motor control or somatosensation-related field of study.
Interested applicants should include their curriculum vitae (or a recent NIH bio sketch), a brief summary of past, current and future research interests (not to exceed two pages), and contact information for two to three professional references.
