Summary Description

The Department of Environmental Health Sciences at the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist position under the supervision of Dr. Marianthi-Anna Kioumourtzoglou. The Postdoctoral Research Scientist will be working on a research project funded by NIEHS (PRIME) to develop and apply novel and robust methods to analyze exposure to mixtures in health analyses. The Postdoctoral Research Scientist will also be collaborating with Dr. Jeff Goldsmith at the Biostatistics Department and Dr. John Wright at the Electrical Engineering Department and Data Science Institute. Responsibilities: • Using and applying existing supervised and unsupervised methods to analyze exposure to mixtures in epidemiologic studies •Developing methods and adapting pattern recognition methods used in computer vision to identify exposure patterns •Assess the performance of the new methods and extensions in simulated scenarios •Use the new methods and extensions in health analyses applications •Assist in open-source software development •Write scientific articles and research proposals

Minimum Degree Required

Doctoral degree in Environmental Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Computer Science or related field

Minimum Qualifications

• Experience in analyzing real data and high-dimensional exposures • Experience in human subjects research desired • Strong background in statistics, quantitative and computational methods • Strong coding skills (preferably in R) • Excellent communication and writing skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with data science tools and ability to learn new tools as required • Experience with version control systems, in particular Git and GitHub • Interest in open-source software, reproducibility and data management • Strong organizational and time management skills • Ability to work both independently and within collaborative, interdisciplinary teams
