The Trustees of Columbia University in the City of New York Postdoctoral Research Scientist in the Center for Integrated Science & Engineeri in New York, New York

The Pro-QM (Programmable Quantum Material) team at Columbia University and Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) is looking for a motivated postdoctoral research scientist interested in quantum materials research and in studying collective excitations and their momentum-dynamics using resonant inelastic x-ray scattering (RIXS). The successful applicant will focus on the electronic investigation of novel van der Waals (vdW) materials and two-dimensional (2D) Moire materials and devices, also explored among Pro-QM teams. The candidate will primarily use resonant inelastic x-ray scattering for these studies, taking advantage of the state-of-the-art RIXS Beamline at NSLSII: the SIX 02-ID Beamline. In parallel, he/she will contribute to the sample preparation and characterization using facilities available at Columbia University. Overall, the successful candidate will be exposed to a multi-disciplinary research environment collaborating within the Pro-QM program, involving Columbia University, Washington University, Stony Brook University, and BNL. Through this experience, the postdoc will gain expertise in cutting edge scattering techniques and in 2D sample preparation, putting them in an excellent position to pioneer new techniques in their independent career.

At the time of starting the position, the postdoc should have a Ph. D. in Physics or a related discipline and previous experience with studying quantum materials. Additional skills may include, for example, experience with scattering or spectroscopic techniques, and 2D sample preparation.
