Supportive housing - affordable housing paired with services designed to help people maintain their homes for the long-term - is widely recognized as a proven and cost-effective solution to chronic homelessness.

But we didn't stop at providing housing. Breaking Ground's programs and services help people experiencing street homelessness - especially those who have been on the streets the longest - to come indoors. Through our Street to Home outreach program and transitional housing resources, we help people get, and stay, on the path to a permanent home.

Reporting to the Senior Director, Evidence Based and Best Practices, the Peer Services Coordinator plays a key role in implementing and overseeing the integration of peers into Breaking Ground programming by drawing from best practices in Peer support, harm reduction, trauma-informed care, and use of their own lived experience of homelessness, mental illness, substance use, and/or immigration issues.   The Peer Services Coordinator provides group supervision, and skills development support to 10-15 peer workers embedded in programs across the portfolios . The Peer Services Coordinator helps develop strategies for implementing per support and recovery models including capacity building, internal advocacy, and troubleshooting integration with traditional service models . The Peer Services Coordinator works closely with the Consumer Advisory Board (CAB) and is the lead for CAB meetings, activities, and feedback integration processes.

This position is onsite and requires traveling to Breaking Ground programs throughout New York City.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Facilitate recurring group supervision for 10-15 client-facing staff in peer roles across the agency  

  • Shadow Consumer Advocates (peer workers) i n the field to observe client-facing work and promote appropriate and effective use of lived experience, best practices, training, and resources while supporting ongoing skill development  

  • Provide to program leadership routine support and consultation regarding best practices in peer service model implementation

  • Collaborate Senior Director, Organizational Development on relevant professional development opportunities

  • Organize and facilitate quarterly meetings with Consumer Advisory Board (CAB) members and work closely with the Senior Director, Evidence-Based and Best Practices, around ongoing strategic implementation of consumer feedback

  • Draw from best practices in peer recovery services (including models with and without formal certification requirements), harm reduction, trauma-informed care, the Housing First philosophy, and use of lived experience when providing supervision, consultation, and guidance Programs staff

  • Perform other duties as assigned

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:   

  • High School diploma or equivalent required

  • Lived experience with homelessness, mental illness, substance use, and/or immigration issues and willingness to appropriately use lived experience as a tool for enhancing the implementation and success of peer programming within the department required

  • Certified Peer Specialist , or similar credential strongly preferred

  • Supervisory experience preferred

  • Proven t rack record of successful delivery, coordination, implementation, and/or oversight of peer-driven, client-facing services

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to liaise with a variety of internal and external stakeholders

  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, Outlook, Microsoft Teams required  

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
