Columbia has two facilities outside of Manhattan. Nevis Laboratories, established in 1947, is Columbia's primary center for the study of high-energy experimental particle and nuclear physics. Located in Irvington, New York, Nevis is situated on a 60-acre estate.

Columbia University Facilities and Operations is seeking a NUSS Mechanic to work at its Nevis location. Responsibilities include performing daily maintenance and mechanical assignments as required by maintenance and/or job orders, by sketch, illustrations or supervisor's verbal or written directions in preventative maintenance, repairs, construction and installation common to the trade. Shall be proficient in the employment of all tools, methods, and materials pertaining to the mechanical trades ex: electrical, plumbing, HVAC and carpentry. Shall be able to read blueprints, diagrams, and be able to work safely, independently and reliably from verbal or written instructions.

Minimum Qualifications for Grade

Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant High School Diploma or the equivalent required. Three years of experience in trades and/or technical discipline required.

Additional Position-Specific Minimum Qualifications

Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant Must be proficient in the use of power tools and other equipment necessary to perform assigned tasks. Must be proficient in analyzing defects, failures of equipment and performing corrective measures. Must be able to clearly communicate, both verbally and in writing, and have the ability to perform tasks as assigned.
