Advertised Summary Job Description This is a temporary position with an expected duration of 6+ months

Reporting to the Director of Financial Reporting and Operations, the Manager is primarily responsible for assisting in the preparation of documentation and implementation of processes in order to comply with certain new accounting standards impacting revenue recognition, grants & contributions and not-for profit accounting. Additionally, the Manager will assist with certain accounting and reporting tasks, including journal entry review, preparation of financial reporting analysis and maintaining accounting controls.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Act as a key member of the team focused on preparing the University to comply with all new accounting standards. The Manager will need to obtain a solid understanding of the University's current accounting policies related to revenue recognition, grants & contributions and not-for-profit accounting. Doing so will require the ability to read and understand existing policy materials as well as to proactively contact key stakeholders and ask questions as necessary. The Manager will perform analysis and prepare accounting memos substantiating and documenting the University's policies in assigned areas and highlight any changes to current policy that may be required. In order to perform these requirements, the Manager should have a sound understanding of accounting principles and be able to read and interpret the new guidance.

Additionally, the Manager will provide assistance on an as needed basis in the preparation of the University's quarterly and annual financial reports by recording, reconciling and providing variance analysis of key financial statement areas and will provide support by assisting with the preparation of audit deliverables and communicating and coordinating with the University's external auditors. During the quarterly closing process, interacts with schools and central administrative departments University-wide, responds to inquiries, assists in the preparation and review of journal entries and financial analysis, and interfaces with University central finance departments/offices including the Office of Management and Budget, Treasury, and Sponsored Projects Finance. Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications for Grade

Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field with at least five years accounting experience, including some public accounting and/or industry experience in a non-profit setting required.

Additional Position-Specific Minimum Qualifications

Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant Must have experience preparing financial statements or researching the application of GAAP. Proficiency in Microsoft Office required, with a particular need for strong Excel skills to collect and analyze data, evaluate information, prepare reports, and present findings and recommendations. Must be highly detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem solving skills, and have the ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments simultaneously. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, including active listening skills, plus the ability to work closely and effectively with a diverse group of University administrators, characterized by strong consensus building and relationship building skills, essential. Must be able to negotiate issues and resolve problems. In addition, the successful candidate must be able to work well with all levels of management, both internally and externally, be flexible in nature, have sound judgment with an open and collaborative style that encourages teamwork and cooperation beyond the immediate team to the broader organization, and be a strong role model. Must have a passion for excellent customer service and commitment to exceptional quality.

Special Instructions

Preferred Qualifications CPA preferred. Experience in a large, complex academic or research environment a plus.
