Position Summary

The Financial Aid Counselor will act as a frontline, subject matter expert on a variety of financial aid questions to a broad constituency in the School of Social Work. This position is expected to be executed

remotely while the School of Social Work continues to work remotely.

THIS IS A TEMPORARY FULL-TIME POSITION THROUGH DECEMBER 31, 2020.

Responsibilities

  • Provide quality financial aid counseling to students, applicants, and recent alumni by phone and email.

  • Process applications for aid and documentation according to federal regulations and institutional policies.

  • Maintain student records to ensure accurate loan processing, proper Cost of Attendance calculations, and timely disbursement of aid.

  • Prepares regular and ad hoc reports.

  • Ensure processing of aid according to federal, state, and university aid regulations and policies.

  • Assist the Director and other staff members as needed on projects.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, 2-3 years experience

  • Demonstrate a customer service focus with strong writing and oral skills. Ability to communicate complex information simply, both verbally and in writing, required.

  • Must be able to collaborate well with team members and perform work independently.

  • Must be timely, self-motivated, detail-oriented, and possess patience, tact, and an ability to function effectively with a diverse student body.

  • Ability to exercise good judgment, meet deadlines, and carry out multiple tasks required.

  • Must demonstrate a high level of discretion while handling confidential and sensitive information.

  • Computer literacy required including proficiency with Windows and Microsoft Office, especially with Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Must be comfortable learning new programs and adapting quickly to change.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Title IV and other Federal Aid regulations.

  • Familiarity with PowerFAIDS.
