Reporting to the Dean, the Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Education and Patient Healthcare Sciences will be responsible for leading the successful operation, continuous improvement, ongoing innovation and strategic planning of the pre-clinical and clinical education and operations of the DDS clinic at the College of Dental Medicine at Columbia University. The Senior Associate Dean is responsible for the clinical care and experience of all patients served by the DDS clinic.
will lead and have ultimate responsibility for all aspects of the clinical education of students pursuing a DDS degree and residents/students pursuing an AEGD certificate, including: ensuring the necessary breadth and volume of procedures and treatment experiences to achieve competency and proficiency; integration of patient care experiences to promote proficiency in patient-centered care; use of data, metrics to improve practice; effectiveness in the use of the electronic health record as a key component of patient care and professionalism; will play an integral role in leading the development and integration of ongoing innovation in technologies, methods, and systems that are part of the DDS and AEGD clinical education and patient experience. The Senior Associate Dean will be responsible for ensuring the entire patient care model, both the end-to-end experience and the experience within any one module is patient centered, provides a high standard of care while also providing the appropriate opportunities for student learning. the Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Education and Patient Healthcare Sciences will have administrative oversight over clinical operations that support the DDS clinic, including: central sterilization, supply chain, infection prevention and control, patient, financial advising. The Chief Operating Officer of Clinical Services will report directly to the Senior Associate Dean The teaching clinic is an NYS DOH diagnostic and treatment center regulated per Article 28 of the DOH regulations. The Senior Associate Dean will be responsible for ensuring compliance with Article 28 regulations in the DDS clinic, along with all other pertinent federal, state and local regulations including HIPPA, Title IX, FDA, and DOE. The Senior Associate Dean is responsible for developing an environment guided by cultural competency, professionalism, and ongoing work on a positive and productive work environment. The responsibilities shown above represent the scope of the role but are not inclusive of all the duties of the Senior Associate Dean. The Senior Associate Dean will be a member of the CDM Leadership Team and an administrative leader.
Minimum Degree Required
Qualifications include, but are not limited to comprehensive clinical skills and a broad knowledge of issues in dental education and specifically clinical oral health matters. At least seven years’ experience in dental education at the institutional level, working in implementation, evaluation and monitoring of a clinical educational program leading to a dental degree. Demonstrated experience working with effective teams to identify and resolve problems.Demonstrated experience in clinical operations and or dental school clinical affairs. Demonstrated experience working closely or directly with senior dental school administration, university administration, governing boards for higher education and accrediting agencies; demonstrated experience and leadership responsibility with professional organizations dedicated to education and dental education. Ability to develop and implement policies and procedures and experience in direct clinical operations or services as a clinical department chairperson.
The Senior Associate Dean will have an academic appointment at Columbia’s College of Dental Medicine (academic rank is determined by the College of Dental Medicine’s Committee on Appointments and Promotion (CoAP).)
Candidates must be licensed or eligible for licensure to practice dentistry in NYS.
