The Trustees of Columbia University in the City of New York Associate Research Scientist/Postdoctoral Research Scientist in New York, New York

The Department of Ecology, Evolution, and Environmental Biology (E3B) at Columbia University invites applications for two new positions at the rank of Associate Research Scientist or Postdoctoral Research Scientist to contribute to transdisciplinary research on tick-borne diseases in the United States. The successful candidate will join the Eco-Epidemiology lab led by Dr. Maria Diuk-Wasser (https://ecoepidemiologylab.e3b.columbia.edu) to support two newly-funded research initiatives.

The first position is supported by our newly-funded Northeast Regional Center for Excellence in Tick-borne Diseases (NEVBD) Teaching & Evaluation Center (TEC). This position will focus on evaluation and optimization of tick, host, and human-targeted interventions and the development of decision support systems at multiple levels.

The second position is supported by Pfizer to estimate populations at risk for Lyme disease and characterize risk typologies using ecological and epidemiological approaches across multiple urbanization gradients.

The candidate(s) will also interact with active projects on emerging zoonotic pathogens including coronaviruses in urban wildlife and harness existing datasets from projects supported by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), The National Science Foundation (NSF) and the Department of Defense (DOD). The positions are highly collaborative, including a network of vector biology and control experts, public health, social and behavioral scientists, economists, and infectious disease modelers. The platforms developed will enhance response capacity for vector-borne disease management.

The positions require a Ph.D. in ecology, epidemiology, economics, applied statistics, infectious disease modeling or a related quantitative field.

A track record of research excellence is essential, as are excellent written and oral communication skills.

Background in epidemiological survey methods, population, infectious disease and spatial modeling is highly desirable.
