The Reya lab, located at The Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center at Columbia University Medical Center, is seeking an associate research scientist to join our multi-disciplinary research program in cancer biology. We are dedicated to understanding the biological mechanisms underlying the development and progression of aggressive cancers, including pancreatic cancer and leukemia, as well as the development of resistance to current therapies. We use a combination of cutting-edge technologies, including comprehensive genomic analysis, transgenic and transplantation-based models, and real-time in vitro and in vivo imaging to gain new insights into the biology of disease and develop new treatments to improve patient outcomes.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Design and execute experiments that seek to understand how cancers develop and progress, define key vulnerabilities and identify new targets for therapy, and leverage this knowledge toward the development of new treatments for cancer
• Test, optimize, and implement new methodologies as needed to advance studies
• Train new lab members on experimental techniques
• Develop, maintain, and assure adherence to standard operating procedures and quality standards
• Communicate results to collaborators, scientific staff, and the broader community, and contribute to the preparation and submission of manuscripts
• Other related activities

Minimum Degree Required

• The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cancer biology, molecular biology, immunology, and/or related fields, and an MD, PhD, or MD/PhD as well as 3 or more years of postdoctoral experience.

Minimum Qualifications

• Excellent experimental and analytic skills and willingness to learn new model systems and methodologies
• Self-motivated with a strong interest in studying the mechanistic and translational aspects of cancer
• Effective communication and writing skills and record of publication in peer-reviewed journal(s)
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in cancer biology or related field
• Experience using in vitro and in vivo models of cancer
• Experience in standard molecular and cellular biology techniques
