Summary Description

The Columbia University Astrophysics Laboratory (CAL) is seeking to appoint a highly motivated and experienced scientist at the rank of Associate Research Scientist to work on the XENON Dark Matter experiment, led by Professor Elena Aprile. Currently, a new experiment, XENONnT, with a 8.4 ton liquid xenon time projection chamber (LXeTPC) is under construction at the Laboratori Nazionali of Gran Sasso (Italy). The successful candidate, as member of the Aprile’s group at CAL, is expected to spend long periods of time at the Gran Sasso Underground Laboratory in Italy during the commissioning of the XENONnT experiment and subsequent data taking. She/he will also play an important role in the analysis of XENONnT data for dark matter searches. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Physics, a minimum of two years of postdoctoral experience with dual phase xenon time projection chambers for dark matter search. Demonstrated experience in cryogenic and purification technologies for liquid xenon, experience with the operation of cryogenic and purification systems for LXe detectors, at least three years of experience in high energy physics software development and analysis, proficiency with object-oriented computing languages (python and C++), and demonstrated expertise with statistical data analysis and Monte Carlo simulations are required. Demonstrated written and oral communication skills are highly desirable. The expected start date for this position is on or around June 01, 2019.
