Advertised Summary Job Description Under the leadership of the Executive Director of Financial Aid, the Associate Director of Financial Aid is a member of the Office of Financial Aid and Educational Financing management team that assists in leading and supporting a professional, efficient and service-oriented operation that provides a full range of financial aid services and advising to the undergraduate students and families of Columbia College and The Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science as well as the graduate students of the Engineering school. This office administers Title IV and institutional financial aid.
-Manage Title IV and all loan processing of the financial aid office. Work with financial aid office staff to insure timely, efficient and professional workflow for the processing of Verification, Title IV grants and all loan programs. Anticipate high volume times to insure appropriate staff resources. Develop and maintain appropriate training materials for staff. Regularly update front office staff on pertinent issues. Develop process enhancements to ensure quality and efficiency of the workflow.
-Review and evaluate financial aid applications. Perform needs analysis. Formulate financial aid packages. Verify documentation submitted by students and families and utilize professional judgment to evaluate changed circumstances that affect a student's package. Work with staff to ensure consistency in packaging and implementation of the financial aid program.
-Counsel prospective and enrolled students and families about aid eligibility, financial aid policies and procedures and alternative financing options. Work collaboratively with other departments across the University to provide students with necessary resource referral. Partner with other advising resources, if needed, to address crisis situations with a particular student.
-Manage other projects as assigned. These may include managing the QuestBridge Review, serving as a liason to other departments or athletic teams, among others.
As a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the Council of Ivy Group Presidents (Ivy League), it is imperative that members of the Columbia University community, in all matters related to the intercollegiate athletics program, exhibit the highest professional standards and ethical behavior with regard to adherence to NCAA, Conference, University, and Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Physical Education rules and regulations.
Minimum Qualifications for Grade
Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant Bachelor's degree and/or its equivalent required. Minimum 3-5 years of relevant financial aid experience including advising/counseling students and families required.
Additional Position-Specific Minimum Qualifications
Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant Strong knowledge of federal (Title IV), state and institutional financial aid processes and regulations required. Experience with financial aid systems required. Solid understanding of project management principles required.

Preferred Qualifications Experience with institutional methodology and/or experience in a need-blind/need-based school preferred. Supervisory experience preferred.
