New York University Assistant Research Scientist (P.I.: Dr. Farnaz Shamsi) in New York, New York

Shamsi lab in the Department of Molecular Pathobiology at the New York University College of Dentistry (https://www.shamsilab.com/) has open positions for a Junior/Assistant/Associate Research Scientist.

The Shamsi lab studies the intercellular crosstalk in the adipose microenvironment to understand the fundamental mechanisms regulating metabolic health and disease. We use genetic mouse models, single cell transcriptomics, imaging, and a wide array of molecular and cellular biology tools to understand adipose tissue development, function, and its role in metabolism. The successful candidates will join a vibrant and collaborative team of scientists. We are committed to foster a culture of teamwork and the highest level of scientific rigor and integrity.

We are seeking highly motivated individuals to work independently and in collaboration with other lab members. The positions will provide excellent opportunities for learning multiple laboratory techniques and gain research experience while contributing to several exciting projects in the lab. Responsibilities include animal colony maintenance, cell and tissue culture, tissue processing, microscopy, gene and protein detection assays, assisting in laboratory stocking and organization, documenting results, and other related duties as assigned.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $50,000 - $55,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.

Applicants must have a bachelor's degree or above in biological sciences or a related discipline.

Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills are required.

Excellent organization and digital record-keeping skills are required.

Prior relevant research experience in working with genetic mouse models, molecular biology techniques, microscopy, cell and tissue culture, and/or R programming is preferred.
