Summary Description

The Department of History at Columbia University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professorship in the field of Britain in the long 19th century. All specializations are welcome, but in light of the Department’s existing strengths in international and imperial history we are interested especially in candidates with expertise in intellectual, social, and cultural history and those who work on Britain in relation to Europe. Candidates with expertise in Irish history are also encouraged to apply. Teaching responsibilities will include undergraduate and graduate courses in the candidate’s field of expertise and in the foundational curriculum of the department, as well as regular participation in the undergraduate core curriculum of Columbia College.

Minimum Qualifications

The successful applicant will show evidence of innovative scholarship and experience with teaching and advising, and have the Ph.D. in hand by July 1, 2020.
