The Trustees of Columbia University in the City of New York Assistant Professor of Radiology at CUIMC (Nuclear Medicine) in New York, New York

The Department of Radiology at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University Medical Center invites applications for a Nuclear Medicine Radiologist position. The Division of Nuclear Medicine and the Columbia PET Center is looking to recruit a highly qualified clinician-scientists with ambition to grow his or her career in research and administration. This position is being created to accelerate the clinical, academic and research program in Molecular Imaging and therapy, and hence physicians with a track record and/or demonstrable strong interest in translational molecular imaging will be preferred. Applicant will be expected to independently cover a busy service when on clinical rotation and expected to actively lead a research program after startup period, where dedicated research time and resources will be made available. Active mentorship by departmental leaders will be available. Collaborations with leaders in many medical and engineering fields are also available to faculty. National leadership in the field and/or a track record of grant funding will strengthen the application.


The PET Center imaging resources include 3 state-of-the-art PET/CT scanners, available for clinical and research use. Dedicated research facilities includes a Molecular Imaging Center that houses 2 cyclotrons, 3 PET/CT Cameras and a cGMP facility capable of production of radiopharmaceuticals for research/clinical use, along with a dedicated Regulatory office to expedite FDA approval. Modifications to the facility to enable cGMP production of compounds suitable for MR imaging/spectroscopy are feasible.

Active expansion into outpatient imaging facilities in Manhattan and Westchester will also have Nuclear Medicine facilities including PET/CT. The Division faculty interpret yearly over 3000 PET/CT scans, and performs almost 500 research imaging cases annually. The nuclear medicine faculty provide training for up to two fellows as well as residents and medical students.Responsibilities include Nuclear medicine and PET Center clinical services, development of a research program focusing both on clinical and/or basic research, participation in clinical and/or basic research, patient care, active participation of resident and fellowship education, participation in interdisciplinary conferences, and collaboration with clinical colleagues. This is a Nuclear Medicine faculty position requiring collaboration in Departmental administrative activities geared towards the continued improvement and development of a high-quality clinical imaging program.

Among many collaborations, the Radiology Department works in partnership with colleagues in the Medical Center's many highly regarded Departments and Centers, including the renowned Gertrude H. Sergievsky Center for the investigation of diseases of the central nervous system, the Taub Institute for research on Alzheimer's disease and the aging brain, the Department of Neurology, the Cerebrovascular Center of the Neurological Institute, the Department of Neurological Surgery, the NCI- designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Department of Radiation Oncology, the Department of Psychiatry, the New York State Psychiatric Institute, and the Department for Biomedical Engineering.


The position requires a Nuclear Radiology fellowship-trained diagnostic radiologist or board certification in nuclear medicine. The candidate must be fellowship trained in nuclear medicine and preferably board certified in both Diagnostic Radiology and Nuclear Medicine and must also be eligible to practice medicine in the State of New York.

The salary and academic rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. We offer a competitive salary of $350,000 - $550,000 and benefits.
