This course is designed for instrumentalist and electronic musicians who want to explore performing with electronic music (analog or digital/software-based) using historical and contemporary methods in an ensemble performance environment-- incorporating techniques for live sound processing, synthesis or interactive elements into their work. Students will work from classic repertoire and recent up to the minute works/compositions, focusing on individual and ensemble work, improvisation, live electronics, live sound processing etc. The course aims to improve a student’s understanding of the aesthetic implications of the use of electronic music techniques, alternative controllers and devices, in an ensemble situation. An end-of-semester concert will be planned. All students should have some prior experience with electronic music and the ability to read a music score, but it is not required. Weekly readings, music listening, and concert attendance/reviews, will be assigned. Students will be responsible for the preparation of any electronic instruments or software they choose to use for our weekly sessions.
