The candidate would join a cohort of researchers that were hired in the FRDS cluster hiring initiative in 2023. The candidate will find a welcoming and supportive community engaged in advancing artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML) and data science (DS) research through cross-disciplinary collaboration. ECE is home to world-class research programs in wireless networking, information theory, signal processing, machine learning, high-performance computing, computer vision, socially cognizant robotics, cyber-physical systems, and nano/bioelectronics. Faculty honors include membership in the National Academies, 13 IEEE Fellows (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), 1 AAAS Fellow (American Association for the Advancement of Science), 1 NAI Fellow (National Academy of Inventors), 1 PFF (Presidential Faculty Fellow), 19 NSF Career Awards (National Science Foundation), 3 DARPA Faculty Fellows (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency), 1 ONR YIP (Office of Naval Research Young Investigator Program), 1 ARO YIP (Army Research Office). Ideal candidates bring a track record (publications, of world-class data science research in one of three key focus areas: 1) Human-centered AI including the fields of robotics, computer vision, and language processing, especially integrating computational social science and interoperability. 2) Bioelectrical engineering in smart health and medicine using sensing, signal processing, and modeling in a data-driven paradigm; 3) Precision agriculture and remote sensing to develop systems and frameworks for the next generation of environmental applications. An overarching theme of interest within and beyond these focus areas is cybersecurity. Expertise in the domain of security and privacy is highly desirable. Candidates who demonstrate excellence in data science areas beyond the stated topics are also strongly encouraged to apply. Candidates should speak to their record of engagement, accomplishment, and potential for academic, professional, and/or institutional work undertaken to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in a separate written statement. Through this initiative, we will strongly emphasize hiring faculty who can help advance diversity, equity, and inclusion at Rutgers, especially in enhancing DEI in STEM.
