Salary Range: $60,000+, dependent on qualifications.

Duration:Academic Year (this position follows the 10-month academic schedule);

*Anticipated start is August 2024

Brief Description of Duties:

The Department of Agricultural Science, Agricultural Business, and Dairy Science at SUNY Morrisville invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Animal Science faculty position with course instruction at the Associate and Baccalaureate levels. The position will include teaching established lecture and applied lab courses and the opportunity to develop new curricula to serve the growing Agricultural Science Bachelor of Technology program.

The successful candidate will be a collaborative team member of the Agricultural Science, Agricultural Business, and Dairy Science department, eager to support the development of the next generation of agricultural professionals.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Classroom Instruction

  • Initial teaching responsibilities may include:

  • Dairy Cattle Reproduction

  • Dairy Calf and Heifer Management

  • Introduction to Dairy and Animal Sciences

  • Domestic Animal Behavior

  • Livestock Production

  • Dairy and/or Livestock Evaluation/Judging as it relates to the successful candidate's areas of expertise

Curriculum Development

  • Development of Animal Science/Livestock courses for the Agricultural Science B. Tech.

  • Help coordinate and strengthen relationships between SUNY Morrisville and the greater Livestock Industry partners.

Student Mentorship

  • Provide guidance and support to students throughout their educational journey, including recruiting students to join our program, academic advising & retention, career counseling, supervision of student interns, and advising student clubs.

  • Foster a student-centered approach that emphasizes individual growth and prepares students for success after graduation.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

  • M.S. in Animal Science or a closely related field

  • 5+ years of industry experience

  • Demonstrated understanding of and experience with current livestock industry practices

  • Demonstrated ability to teach at the collegiate level.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in Animal Science, or closely related field.

  • Experience with hands-on educational strategies and practices.

  • Experience working with both traditional and non-traditional college students.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication (both written and oral) skills.
