General Description (Purpose and Function):

The Division of Trauma & Acute Care Surgery and Surgical Critical Care at the University of Miami, Leonard Miller School of Medicine is seeking a fellowship-trained surgeon to join our trauma surgery team. We have a strong multidisciplinary group that works to provide high quality clinical care and access to cutting edge clinical trials.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities (For-exempt Employees Include Percent of Effort):

Job responsibilities include participation in clinical and educational activities as they relate to the Divisions of Trauma & Acute Care Surgery and Surgical Critical Care and the Department of Surgery.

  • This position supports the goals and objectives of the Divisions of Trauma & Acute Care Surgery and Surgical Critical Care .

  • Provides patient Surgical Services to include OR, and Critical Care and other clinical care all Trauma Centers in the Jackson Memorial Hospital Health System, and University of Miami Hospital System (UMH) under the governance of the University of Miami Medical Group (UMMG).

  • The individual will provide education to medical students, surgery residents and fellows, nurses and other medical personnel at JMH and UMH Facilities.

  • Interacts frequently with colleagues and attendings in the Divisions of Trauma, Acute Care Surgery, Surgical Critical Care, Burns and Surgical Nutrition Support, in a collegial manner.

  • May periodically support the surgical nutrition service.

  • Provides presentations and is encouraged to publish.

  • This position is responsible for billing of clinical services and documenting in the patient's medical records in a timely manner, and according to JMH and University of Miami policies and procedures.

  • Individual will promptly reply to any billing and documents discrepancies and issues related to documentation .

  • Individual will abide by practices outlined in the medical Faculty and UMMG Manuals.

  • Attends weekly divisional meetings and is responsible to go to Departmental Faculty Meetings and attend Grand Rounds.

  • May provide Telemedicine assistance in the OR, telemedicine forum discussions, training and weekly International Trauma Grand Rounds and other educational outreach as may be deemed appropriate.

  • The individual will also be responsible for email inquiries due to urgent issues .

  • Individual will be required to travel to meet contractual obligations of the Division of Trauma .

  • The individual may also provide ATLS training to enrolled students, staff, residents, fellows, and faculty .

  • Individual will practice primarily at JMH-South campus .

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Along with proper training and certification, the incumbent must have a keen interest in and concern for the needs of trauma surgery patients, and other related surgical anamolies.

  • Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles, procedures, and techniques

  • Thorough knowledge of pharmacological agents used in patient treatments

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills along with proper telephone etiquette

  • Performs duties in tactful and professional manner

  • Fluency in Spanish is greatly valued because our local and regional demographics .

Education Requirements (Essential Requirements):

Applicants should have a strong commitment to patient care and education and an interest in clinical research .

  • M.D. degree

  • Eligible candidates must be Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Surgery .

  • Be able to obtain and maintain a valid DEA Registration and Florida Medical License .

    Work Experience Requirements (Essential Requirements):

0 - 5 years post fellowship clinical experience in the field of Trauma Surgery and/or Critical Care Surgery preferred
