Baptist Memorial Assistant- Research in Memphis, Tennessee

Summary

The Baptist University College of Osteopathic Medicine (BUCOM) Research Assistant will provide hands-on support to BUCOM faculty and students within the research laboratories. This individual will assist researchers with laboratory experiments by preparing reagents and samples, performing basic cell culture and other basic laboratory techniques, setting up equipment, and troubleshooting experimental procedures or equipment function. The Research Assistant will assist in maintaining laboratory cleanliness, including preparing and sterilizing glassware, organizing laboratory supplies and reagents, and preparing laboratory waste receptacles for pick up. The ideal candidate will also have experience in basic bench laboratory techniques such as (but not limited to) real-time PCR, SDS-PAGE, and sterile cell culture. Incumbents may also assist researchers with the preparation of experimental animal tissues. This position will report directly to the Associate Dean of Research, responsible for 8 hours/day, 5 days/week.

Responsibilities

1.Assist researchers with laboratory experiments by preparing buffers and reagents, setting up equipment, and following basic experimental protocols and procedures.

2.Perform basic laboratory tasks such as experimental sample preparations, centrifugation, pipetting, cell culture, preparing tissue samples, and other routine laboratory techniques.

3.Accurately record experimental data, observations, and results in laboratory notebooks and/or computer databases.

4.Assist in maintaining laboratory cleanliness, including preparing and sterilizing glassware, disposing of hazardous waste, and organizing laboratory supplies. Follows laboratory safety and compliance protocols and procedures.

Requirements, Preferences and Experience

Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific discipline, such as biology, chemistry, or biochemistry, or related health/laboratory sciences.

One (1) year research laboratory technical experience

Excellent time management, organizational skills, and critical thinking capability

Strong administrative, organizational and communication skills
