DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide professional coverage at various posts for the Safe Haven program. Emergency response and crisis intervention as needed. Escort clients to housing, benefits, medical, and other important appointments as needed. Responsible for completing intake paperwork, recording in Safe Haven log book, and other operational paperwork. Assist case managers, answer phones, and report information to clinical team. Provide emergency first aid/CPR assistance when needed. Related duties as assigned.

HOURS:

Full-time, 37.5 hours per week

• Sunday - Thursday 11pm-7:30am

QUALIFICATIONS:

BA or experience working with homeless preferred. High School diploma or GED required. Good writing and oral communication skills. Basic computer literacy required. Fire safety director strongly preferred. Must possess the ability to follow directions and work closely with others. CPR training certification or willingness to take training class in CPR.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

In January 2008, BRC launched its third new low-threshold transitional housing program, the Lex Safe Haven. Funded by the NYC Department of Homeless Services, the Lex Safe Haven is aimed at moving long-term homeless people from church steps and other public spaces throughout the city. Currently, this congregate housing facility provides housing for up to 43 couples and single men and women. Similar to other low-demand BRC facilities, case managers at the Lex Safe Haven are focused on moving chronically street homeless individuals into permanent housing. Program participants are not required to maintain sobriety and do not have any curfew; the one requirement upon entering is that they actively work toward obtaining housing.
